  1. I agree that the problemm is at the root of the thread. I would draw it in MC to reduce the trial and error of modifying the insert geometry. You need to work it out on "paper" first.
  2. "Try tightening up your arc filter tolerance to .0005 or less for the finish pass, and use the refine toolpath tab to fine tune. It will make it take forever to re-gen and verify, but should help with the gouging. On your roughing paths, make sure your arc filter tolerance is half of what you are leaving for finish. If you are only leaving .002, your arc filter tolerance should be no more than .001. " Looks like a tolerance setting to me also!
  3. You may be able to build lofted ruled surfaces from the letters and then intersect tose with the surface you are tryting to project onto. It taks a little work but can be an altermate method

  6. Make sure your curve is all on one side of the surface. If it interesects, then translate it up a bit. Also there are a couple of options. One normal to the surface or normal to the view.
  7. I would just open the emailed _xt file in a text editor like wordpad and take a look at it. Does it look like a valid _XT file at the begiining and end of the file?

  10. I didn't see a crash just an issue with only cutting in one direction. Yor next post with the face mill toolpath cuts in both directions. Can you change the contour path to work in both directions?
  11. The analyze --> dynamic function works well for this.
  12. I did remodel the solid to help show you a more efficient and cleaner method for solid modelling. I actually thought that the surface was supposed to angle in the other direction however.
  13. I had a different result from the one John provided, but I was having a little trouble putting it on the FTP site. Was John's solution OK?
  14. Although I have not looked at your file, I often use the the solids chamfer (1 distance and angle) function quite often for this kind of solid feature.
  15. I prefer scallop since it is directly related to surface finish reguardless of cutter size. One value works for all ball mill sizes. You will need a different stepover value for each size ball mill.

  18. I do all my solid modelling in MC. I like to keep my solid construction geometry in case I need to modify my solid down the road. I just put the geometry on a difeerent level which is only used for the construction of the solid. Only turn on that level when doing solid modelling.
  19. The reverse also works. When working in a metric config simply add "in" to the dimension and MC will do the conversion for inches.
  20. Whe I receive a metric print with only a few features (dimensions) I will often work in my standard inch configuration. When I input the numbers from the metric print I simply add "mm" to the dimension and let mastercam do the conversion. If it is a bigger project I will open MC in a metric configuration as mentioned save the part, and then re-open the file in an inch configuration.
  21. Well with that radius the conversion 0f .03937 would only be off at the fifth decimal place not .004" You can import the file into a metric config, save it and open it in inches if you doubt the conversion. Did you analyze the radius before the conversion? It should have meassured 171.45mm.
  22. Did You import into a metric configuration or scle the geometry? If it was a large radius, the error can be from scaling the geometry. I always scale by 1/25.4 for more accurate results.

It works here, just need to select in proper sequence Select pattern type I'll use rectangular pattern Select white arrow Pick a solid face or solid operation from solids tab in operation manmager Select green button on menu bar Pick the number of copies Set the offset distance Make sure regen is checked in preview box so you can see how it will end up select green arrow

  25. I usually select the geometry to copy, then right click on the level manager button, select move or copy, pick the level to copy to and slect green arrow. I have never had any trouble.
