  1. I'm trying to open a Solidworks file, ".sldprt "and keep getting the message "Cannot find Parasolid data in Solidworks file" is there a reson I can't open Solidworks any more? I'm running X4 MU1 Multiaxis
  2. I have that happen when I use curve 5 axis. I get the same message. It happens because I am using a line as my axis control, at zero or straight up and down where the rotary is zero. The controls are not sure where to start so I just except the 0.0 or put it in so it knows to start at zero. They post out correct and I've never had a problem
  3. Cool thanks Scott, thought I make one to hang in the shop. I'll post pics when I'm done Nils
  4. Could someone save it as an X4 file and place it on the ftp site, I don't have X5 yet Thanks
  5. I use lots of containment boundaries here. I usually start out (all in 3D) ‘create curve all edges’ of a surface then project the curves to a distance above my work (I like to get it out of the way so I might use 80 inches above the work) Using project keeps everything in plane to lessen any problems you might have if you just moved or copied the geo. I then might re-size as needed using the top view or which ever view is appropriate to see if it is what I want. You might want to use ‘Analyze Chain’ have to make sure all curves are joined. In 3D you shouldn't have a problem joining ends. Also check your tolerances as noted in the previous threads.
  6. Gcode, OK, I kinda get it, I'll use straight to keep it on or in the boarder. But if I use smooth how much is it going to go past the boarder? What compensation would you use to keep it on the boarder or inside the boarder. The containment isn't a containment, it seems. I also checked 'Help' it doesn't really define how smooth and straight transition interact with the boarder.
  7. I ran across this a while back and just getting around to asking about it. In Surface High Feed (Rastor) ‘smooth transition’ the tool goes way out side of the containment boarder (beyond the center of the tool). If I use straight transition it stays on the center of the containment boarder. The larger the step over with “smooth transition’ the farther past the containment boarder the tool travels. Even with a small step over the tool moves beyond center and if you use inside transition the tool will still move beyond the containment boarder. To me the containment boarder should work regardless of the transition type. Has anyone else seen this? This is happening in X3 and X4 I don’t have X5 so I don’t know what X5 does.
  8. This is interesting how different the code is for the same controller. I have the F 8055 also and the beginning of mine looks like this ; T1 .125 X 9.202 C BEM TOOL - 1 PIVOT LEN. - 18.967 ; RIGHT RAD ACROSS N108 T1 N110 M6 N112 S4500 N114 M3 N116 G54 N118 G0 G90 B0. 9. Mike check out teh video here at this link, WCS 4 axis scroll down to 'WCS 4axis" and also check out this earlier post, it's where I got the link WCS, read Colin's explanation on the subject and some of the other inputs These all help me out Nils
  10. Colin, if you want to take a look at it I put it on the FTP (after some help from the guys on the site), in the X3 fold 'Rough Stock NN' is the file name
  11. Right topic OK got it, used filezilla and got it uploaded Thanks for the help guys
  12. I tried Internet Explorer, didn't work either. I'm trying file zilla right now.. after some updates
  13. I'm trying to upload a file to the FTP site. I've done it before but it has been a while. I'm using firefox, I open The FTP site and then explore on my computer and try to drag the file over but it won't go . What am I doing wrong
  14. Thanks Colin I tried your suggestion with high speed. not sure if it doesn't work correctly because I don't have solids only surfaces here. I believe I follow your instructions but the toolpath just never came out right. I ended up with a trimmed rough pocket toolpath, it gave me the best cutting time with the least amount of air cutting, still cutting air since I can only trim one profile. What I'd really like to see is a toolpath that can follow my actual stock .stl, which is easy to make. Still not totally happy with the roughing but it will do.
  15. I haven't used the roughing programs too much for our applications, but I now have some project where it makes sense to use them. My problem is that I can't get it to start at the top of the stock. These are large foam stock pieces with a stair step pattern. I've able to trim the tool paths to the stair stepping in profile but the roughing program still wants to start at my '.1 stock to leave' height which in this case means I have about 3 inches of stock remaining above this that we need to remove. I'm I missing some settings. I've tried rough parallel, rough pocket, high speed roughing and can't seem to find a way to cut form the actual top of stock.
  16. Rstewart, could you expand on that a bit. I've had some of the same problems with new stock shapes that are stair stepped shapes. I've had a bit of luck using a trimmed tool path but I can only trim it one way ( as in the length) so i still cut air in the width. Can you use the rest rough STL with the original stock shape?
  17. for duel screens I set mine up with Mastercam on one and everything else on the other
  18. I get the allocate memory for toolpath functions once in awhile on our stuff, I turn everything off and reboot it usually works...oh and i do a ram allocation thingy first, that seems to help to
  19. Just saw this Jamey, maybe we should have a beer sometime
  20. Oops this thread optimize feed rates
  21. I just tried 4 pdf files, dragged and dropped all at the same time into Adobe and it worked fine. So why not with Mastercam?
  22. Just tried it here and no worky
  23. Is this for new posts requests or post help requests or something different?
