Hi NFranco, congrates on a new seat!

I didn't have email ,net ,phone, and so on when I started at this seat(2 years ago), but that stuff justs comes along with job duties, or phone, email net, tasks that the company needs the programmer to do.

Your new there, give a little time to settle in.

At least you don't have quams like the guy who worked for NJ gov. biggrin.gif

N Franco,

I too work in the Bay Area and am also thinking like you these days. The machining trade has went back in time 8 years as far as simple respect and pay goes. Those last 3-1/2 years has really done us in. It is kind of like you must have 20+ years experiance and be the best around the area just to make what you did 5-10 years ago or even have a job!

Am I right? or.. maybe we are spoiled? The Bay area used to be HOT! as far as the machining industry goes.

I use my cell for personal stuff, I have my own phone/extension, my own desk, e-mail, limited internet access. E-mail is an absolute necessity, Internet is close, gotta be able to download patches and stuff, and have remote access from home to my desktop and cell controller computer.

Ive been spoiled by a title myself, Bus cards, Phone, own fax, internet, its a messy job but someones got to do it. I will be leaving here though, times are still tough especially for the HARDHEADED banghead.gif But will be another programming position with MC.I am sure I wont get the perks there, but it isnt 86 miles one way from my house and they dont have a fear of technology.

Nick, I think I have to go along with what Scott said. Are you there first dedicated grammer? If so, the managment will soon know what you will need to remain producive. If they have other grammers, I would just bitch till I got the net.....

What else are you supposed to do all day... biggrin.gif

No phone. (Thank God. I hate those things) But one is available in the dept for work related calls (I did a happy dance when the dept phone was moved off my desk) and in the breakroom for personal call (within reason).

I'm one of the few outside of sales and owners with an email address since it's a requirement for my job. Same with internet. Internet for office staff, outside their job descriptons, is availabe on breaks and lunch. Again, same as phone calls within reason.
