Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced verification package?

Both the Metacut utilities and Cimco edit 5 will verify/backplot milling files, but only backplot turning files. If you want to verify turning files you will need something more.

 

I have been using metacut for quite a few years and really like it, it has a lot of nice features for editing your nc files as well as verifying and backpoting them. While I have used cimco edit 5's verification I do not know enough about it, I do know people who like. I beleive you can get trial versions of both right from their websites.

Cimco Edit 5 has a backplot. You can download and run as a 30 day (?) trial.

Predator Virtual CNC will do what you need

Its about a 1/3 the cost of Vericut. A three

axis mill/lathe seat will run you about $3K.

Nothing beats Vericut for perfomance and features

but its not cheap.

I have two seats of MCU. works well for what we do. 3 axis and 2 axos lathe. We also do some 4 axis stuff but I haven't really felt the need to spend a lot more money

Cimco Full V5 here and does all the lathe and 3 axis stuff we need. Predator is a very nice product for the money, but if you got a McDonalds budget then might want to look at Trial and error method, crashes on the machine, and scrap parts. I do not understand why more people do not use this proven method. Why verify code I just don't get why someone would try to save time and money spending some money on software to eliminate crashes and down time??? Hey it might cost you a spindle every year, and those 100 of hours of proving out programs at the machine that does not cost a company money it is all free. Scrap parts well those are just bonuses to have to display to people the work your company can do. Broken tooling again that is free so really what does it cost to spend some money for verification software??? In the long run that lost time, possible machine damage, broken tooling and scraps parts are so much cheaper than some fancy problem solving verification software that would eliminate 99% of that. I think we should embrace it as job security.

I just downloaded the cimco edit v5 demo. I like it so far but can you show the solid model as it is getting cut like in Mastercam verify? Or do you just get to see the resulting solid?

 

So far that is all I have been able to get it to do.

You will only see the resulted solid that is it.

Check out 'CNC Simulator', free but you have to download a new key every couple of months

Can you measure the results in cimco 5. This is one of the reasons I like verification software. The verify in mastercam will not measure the result, only the underlying model/wireframe. I have heard that cimco 5 will come with X3.

We just bought Predator Virtual CNC with 5 axis with stl compare, it is pretty easy to set up and use it. The cool part was all under $6,000 grand. I just wish it was compatible with my spaceball but for 6000 who cares.

Thanks Colin. I had never used STL before but always wondered what it was. I'll do some experimenting with it.
