Does anyone know if Master Cam offers or sales a hasp that I can use at home without having to buy a complete second seat ? I have mill level 3 at work but I sometimes draw at home . I have solid works 2010 and they allow me to run on two computers just not at the same time.We only have one cnc mill and im the only programmer we have. I dont even need to be able to post or create tool paths just draw my geometry . I have been taking the hasp from computer to computer, drawing in solid works then converting, even done the go to my pc thing over the internet. Any ideas?? banghead.gifconfused.gif

Well, it doesn't have any moving parts, so it should never 'wear out' in the conventional sense. wink.gif

I think the only solution is to do what you've been doing. Transporting the sim from the office to home and back may be a minor hassle, but it does allow you to get the job done. If Mastercam started issuing multiple sims for a single seat, that would certainly open the door to abuse. eek.gif

Yes, it would be a nice feature for honest people to use in an honest way. But sad to say there are people out there who are less than honest. Mastercam has a right to protect itself from people who would use the software dishonestly, so unfortunately the honest people must also abide by that protection. frown.gif

Jim,

I do understand completely!I was just thinking it would be neat if we could store our sim online in a locker of some sort that we could log into with say our serial number and maybe ping it every 30 mins or so throughout the day and then at the end of the day we could log out and then log back in from home.If a person only had one seat then thats all they could use and 2 seats could have multiple computers running at the same time and so forth. Just a thought! But i do totally agree and understand them protecting whats theirs! Thanks for the reply

What about buying MC Design LT? The shop bought this just for that reason. The price is pretty reasonable. I have the X3 version (X4 at work), so if I start drawing at work I just save it as X3 to a thumb drive and then take it home. Not sure how it would work if you have tool paths.

Ahhhhhh...I see!

I thought you were talking about a second physical sim.

Yes, I think the technology does exist to do something like you are suggesting here. cheers.gif

However, I think even an online secure server would still be a target for abuse. MC would have to look at the available technology and make a decision whether they believe the security would be adequate.

Ask Teh Evil Machinist here on the forum.

He will tell you for certain that there is no such thing as a 100% secure online server . wink.gif

I'm wondering about something. What about using remote access. Like have you ever seen a computer administrator using your computer from a remote terminal. It would require you to leave your computer on all night but I think it might work. It would mean the computer would have to access the internet, and you would have to do the same. But, In theory you would be accessing your work computer through your home computer and you can do everything you need to do but press the reset button. Has anyone ever tried this?

I have been curious about running a seat of MC from home myself. I would be the one to forget to bring back the sim the next day and have to go back and forth from work two times before ever really getting to work. Can PC anywhere do this? Would their be any latency probems if we had good connections?(comcast, cable etc.)

No not an act of congress, but i did have to pony

up $250 to replace it as we'll as a good explanation

Accessing a HASP over VPN / Remote Desktop / GoToMyPC isn't ideal, as graphics rendering is painfully slow (these programs all disable hardware acceleration at the Windows level, not a Mastercam issue smile.gif ).

Your best bet would be DesignLT, but that doesn't have any toolpathing functionality. Demo HLE is okay if you are just using it to learn the software, but HLE parts are not compatible with an Industrial SIM. Just be careful with the SIM... don't lose that little guy.

The best way to do this is convert your companies

SIMS to a nethasp.

Then you can access the sim via a VPN tunnel

from home.

I do this with my employeer's Vericut, NX and Catia

licenses. I don't bother with Mastercam because I own my own sim.

Chris.. I have to take issue with this..

If you are accessing the nethasp via a VPN tunnel,

you are running the app on the computer at home.

Only license inquiries travel back and forth over the internet.. everything else is running

on the home computer.

I've never tried this with Mastercam, but

Vericut rocks on my Win7x64 workstation at home..
