Rocketmachinist,

How is the VM3? We may be looking at a VM2. Any major concerns we should be aware of? We were looking at adding the 40 tool changer and thru coolant (300 psi). Actually, thru spindle coolant would be new to us. Is the 1000 psi thru coolant something we should look at? What would warrant upgrading to the 1000 psi?

Well after seeing this list of machines I can see everyone is in a different league than me lol. But I can at least say I own them free and clear which helps from a buisness standpoint.

(1) Fadal VMC totally rebuilt from the ground up.

(1) Haas bought brand new in 2009

(1) Seat of Mastercam had to throw this in the list as this is just as important as any machine I have in my shop.

Well update on our VM3.

We got the machine setup and working.... For a little while. Every other day I get an error 234 Spindle encoder cable fault. Everyone thinks that it's a connector that came loose during shipping. The downside is we bought the machine through a dealer that works with the federal govt. So to get a technician out here we have to get that company (which is in Maryland) to call up a repair company (in Washington) to fly out a guy to fix the machine. But, if we would have bought the machine through our local dealer Selway, then it would be a 20 minute drive for the technician to fix our machine. If we would have known it was going to be this much hassle we would have bought locally and been done with it.

Yikes! We got ours thru Selway

Yea, the guy came out yesterday and replaced the encoder and the encoder cable. I'm running another spindle break-in just to get some time on the machine and make sure it doesn't do it again. But the technician was messing around with the wire and the encoder and got the machine to error out when wiggling the connection. So we look in good shape.

I wonder if the feds were gonna let Bubba get to know (in the biblical sense) Gene and that's why he gave that dealer exclusive Government facilities special deals.
