Hi , All!

I am starting the new project:

Lazy Iskander Dirty Tricks Inc.

I want to share with you some of my tricks .

The first one is milling electrode with constant angle taper using pocket and contour toolpathes with offset minus using end mills with radius 0.

The pocket with taper angle also very useful for rough milling ,it will reduce the spindel load !

Also is useful for those who have only level 1.

Have a look at ftp://mastercam:[email protected]/Ma...files/lazy1.zip

I hope that the file is self -explaining enough .

I am ready for discussion

Still to come : tricks for milling deep pockets ,technology trick, contour milling for threads, surface offset - with solid shell and more .

Every my trick is in everyday use and proved many times!

Nevertheless tricks have their limitations ,use at your oun risk.

IskandeR teh Lazy people are a progress driving force !

Thank you ,Marty !

Lazy Iskander Dirty Tricks Inc is alive and working (beta-testing some more tricks ) smile.gif

Here is a technology trick: thick part middle removing without deformation and in a very short time !

Have a look at

ftp://mastercam:[email protected]/Ma...files/lazy2.zip

PS.Lazy Iskander Dirty Tricks Inc is uncommercial

organization but we are accepting limericks and good jokes !

Still to come : Bryan314 C-hooks at closer look !

Lazy Iskander Dirty Tricks revival !

Have a look at ftp://mastercam:[email protected]/Ma...les/LAZY3_1.ZIP

/edit The former Lazy3.zip file had a little mistake frown.gif , sorry !

/end of edit

Use of the Xform-> roll function for electrode creation and milling using contour 3d with taper angle !

Xform-roll rocks !

With it`s help the letters come perfect ,much better than with project !

I milled in such a way electrodes with a manual indexer milling a letter and turning indexer to the next angle without 4-th axes with good results.

For best results you`ll need multiaxes 4-axes toolpathes

Yeah X-form roll is a great tool for rolling letters onto arcs. I've used a combination of X-form roll and the projecting the results onto complex curved surfaces with much better results than just projecting the 2d geometry. Rhino has a tool that lets you flow your geometry along a curve..no matter what shape it is, very nice tool for stuff like this.

Nice use of toolpaths in that lazy3.mc9 cheers.gif

I would do probably the same thing in taht situation, but I would probably create splines out of the sections of the letters that end up being lots of tiny little lines. Just makes it a little easier to deal with when you can select the sections as a whole and helps avoid some problems.

I'm pretty green on surface toolpaths myself, BUT just finished some letters on a conical surface. I'm studying your work closely, Iskander! I'm eager to learn tricks from the pro's..

Now you did'nt project those letters on a surface, but rolled them instead? Would that only work on a single-axis curve (cylinder), as compared to an undulating surface? Advantages?

Thx for sharing! smile.gifsmile.gif

Hi , All !

Many thanks for your imput ,PPL !

Ezra !

I called my tricks lazy cause I always in look for most simple ,fastest, primitive way ,that`s what I like in Mastercam is 1000 ways to do things .

I always for the simplest , cause I am lazy !

Cmr !

You gave me a idea for the next dirty trick .

It`s true that you can roll only to cylinder and

project is deviating (not accurate ) frown.gif !

Yet exists one simple effective way to put accurate letters on cone or any other surface using c-hooks .

It can be done using combination of c-hooks :

FLATSRF.DLL, map.dll,con2spl.dll, map.dll .

This is only a beta -file ,not final ,I will put explanations ,add some things ,put stages on separate levels and make toolpath ,

but if someone want to have a look ,he can find it here :

ftp://mastercam:[email protected]/Ma...s/LAZY4BETA.ZIP

Now listening Deep Purple Fireball

Thanx guys for kind words !

Nice to know that I can help somebody or just to show that MC is for more mighty program than it seems from the first look !

And I don`t afraid to share ,I always was a giving hand, I don`t afraid of competition and such kind of things , methinks that I am getting more experient too and tricks will never end .

Cmr !

I am busy now and will in near future produce the

final clean Lazy4 with stages and moves all explained .

Now in couple of words I can say this :

quote:

I'm assuming you wrapped the flat surface with the letters around the adjacent conical surface?

You are wrong .

I made a cone .made from it flattened contour (type of enteties SURFASE CURVE !),converted them to splines ,

put in it letters ,buld from this geometry surface ,put on the edges curves of type Surface Curve and transfered (mapped) them to the original cone.

Now You can convert them to splines and mill!

Oooof!

Sounds a bit frightful but it is rather simple when you do it second time and I do this sort of stuff a lot .

Look to the *.doc files of according c_hoocks for explanation and in Mastercam help file .

I will explain every step later soon

Hi ,folks !

Here is something special :

The lettering on sphere and it is not a project .

It is not Ideal but the result is rather good ,IMHO ,only one letter needs a little cleaning .

This is also beta -file .

ftp://mastercam:[email protected]/Ma...files/LAZY6.ZIP

The used c-hooks and the order of their using:

map,map,conv2spl .

Have a fun

If someone wish to explain how I have done it or recreate it he is welcome !

New!

Lazy Iskander dirty tricks Inc is proud to announce the final:

ftp://mastercam:[email protected]/Ma.../ZAZY4FINAL.ZIP

with every stage explained !

The lettering on cone using flatsurf, map and con2spl c-hooks !!!!

FAQ:

Q. Why I must use surface curves entety type

A. Map c-hook use only this type of enteties for mapping

quote:

Description:

This C-hook allows for mapping a surface curve from one surface

to another. Map simply copies the u, v coordinates from the selected

surface curve (optionally swapping u and v) to the new surface curve and

connects it to a new parent surface. The resulting shape of the new surface

curve is a function of the u, v coordinates of the selected surface curve and

the shape of the new parent surface. Generally, results in surface curve

"morphing" from the first surface to the second surface.

Use in connection with the surface flattening C-Hook (flatsrf.dll) for

mapping curves from the flat to the original surface. Use Toolpaths /

Multiaxis / Curve5ax for making a toolpath (5-axis or 3-axis) on the surface

curve.

Q. why I must convert surface curves with con2spl c-hook ?

A. You can not use surface curves for toolpathes geometry

quote:

Creates parametric spline(s) from surface curve(s).

Typically, con2spl is needed after running the map C-Hook, since

map can only create surface curves.

Have fun !

Still to come in near future :

1. Bryan314`s c-hooks(looking from close distance) .

2. Surface milling electrode model with negative offset using solid shell

3. Engraving (what to do if you don`t have Raster -to -Vector c-hook ).

4.trimming toolpathes and useful tricks with it

5. How to make a work with Mastercam more productive and fast .

6.How to work with Windows faster and comfortable .

7.more tricks ....

8. how to get million bucks in 2 days!!!!!! Ooops ,wrong place ! frown.gifsmile.gif Just kidding.

Lazy Iskander dirty tricks Inc. is opened for suggestions and is somebody wants to share his tricks here he is warmly welcome !

Lazy Iskander is proud to announce the brand new topic and trick Lazy7

********BRYAN`S C-HOOKS *********

You must first of all download his great c- hooks from here

I asked about one feature and Bryan was very kind to create COLRENTS.dll c-hook .

It looks at the first sight so senseless but it is rocks and I will show it now

It is good for analizing entities but I use it for some very nice new type of sorting that I call

SORT TO GROUPS BY CREATION ORDER .

Have a look on ftp://mastercam:[email protected]/Ma...files/LAZY7.ZIP trick

Open the level 1 and 2

I created points on level 2 by create-> points ->

along ent command

Now let`s say I want to drill every even point with drill and every noneven with mill .

The ammount of points make this task a problem !

No probs .

ALT-c COLRENTS.dll and select enteties all points

min color10 max color 11 and do it .

Look at result that`s what you want !

You can sort up to 256 groups (number of colors )

Now when you make drill ops select points by color !

Now close this levels and open the levels 3,4,5,6

You can do more sophisticated sorting making sort order with fake drill operation ,backplotting it to the separate level ,deleting all jumps and leaving all drilling lines .

Now create points with create->point->slice by plane z=0 on a separate level and proceed with a

COLRENTS.dll c-hook .

This examples can help to create you custom ramp operations and you can do a ton of other things .

Still to come: Bryan`s Crlength c-hook and tricks with it

Iskander s!z Bryan C-hooks rOcK !

********BRYAN`S C-HOOKS *********

Hi , All !

I continue to talk about Bryan`s c-hooks.

The hook of the day is Crlength c-hook .

Well it rather simple and the same time mighty tool .

You can do with it many things but I will show only one.

With it `s help I do FREE -HAND MOUSE MACHINING.

Those who don`t have a Camaix MOUSEMCH.dll c-hook will find this useful.

Let us say you need to mill something fast`n`dirty

like rest of material

Create new level freemouse .

Alt + c Crlength.dll

In the menu settings must be :

line y

Abs inc I

Point n

arc b

diameter -> input here the tool diameter

now click on do it

You will need afterwards to connect the lines segments

you can delete now circles .

proceed with contour toolpath with compensation off

That`s rather simple and IMHO now need for a MC9 example file

Iskander s!z I want the multiline option !!!!

Here is another trick as an add-on to the discussion 5axes milling with 3 axes

prepared a file showing solid model turned in two axes and a couple of ways to mill it .

Have a look on ftp://mastercam:[email protected]/Ma...files/LAZY8.ZIP

Use verify with ftp://mastercam:[email protected]/Ma...files/LAZY8.stl .

The part is solid in level 1

Shelled solid is for veryfication .

********BRYAN`S C-HOOKS *********

The topic of the day is BWCS.DLL c-hook (Bryan`s view manager ).

It is slim ,simple and nice .

It gives you a possibility to manage views without changing the WCS and I use it much .

Change your gview to some custom plane and using it you`ll get all the views according to the active Gv such views like top, front, back, bottom, side, left side ,iso top, iso bottom ,backup view and Cp=Cv

I love it .

Fast and real timesaver !
