  1. I read on the internet that threading and a "K" value can conflict with G17. But our issue is the first position line after the safety line has G17 and "A" value which causes 0021 alarm. We have other machines this runs just fine. (Move the "A" to the next line and it runs fine) I guess my question is has anyone had this issue and resolved it with a parameter change? It"s a Doosan and I see 5109#0 is referenced on their website but I'm not the best FANUC guy.
  2. I was taught a couple of years ago when I started with this software, that with "A" axis work the part needed to be at TOP TOP TOP, since then I found all that is needed is a correctly oriented "AXIS" plane. I would agree though when adding more axis' I.E. MT/5axis, start with the part in world model space at TOP. My standard practice is to not move the model if possible.
  3. I have been adjusting mine for a long time and finally think I got it. I just started with a template that came with the software.
  4. It seems like a part of the .ToolDB file edited file extention
  5. I done edumacated a few eng-gineers in my day. They were all better for it, at least the ones that listened....
  6. YOU SIR WIN THE INTERNET TODAY! I have a friend that does that backcountry skiiing off heli drops. He is the guy filming the customer but he is skiing backwards filming it!!!! Insane!
  7. There is definitely a difference between playing a video game and actual machining.
  8. Colin, would you use the DMT or full thread type? I am a bit old school, so the DMT kinda scares me.
  9. Flakey soft copper, got it! That is the best, worst, most ambiguous description of a material. Wish me luck.
  10. I searched a few threads here, but was wondering if anyone has experience with form tapping in Tantalum. I have a big part$$$$$$$ 5-1/2 dia 7/16 thick with lots of hole details. We cut a lot of titanium here so the milling part should not be too bad to use that as a reference.
  11. You could do a simple 3d contour on the side hole arc and trim it to the circle on top. do a small step over left to right, cut to size or leave a little stcok
  12. HAAS does have revolution limits in the machine settings. I haven't had to play with it much but know enough to be dangerous..........
  13. It's likely in the machine itself. What machine?
  14. Correctly dubbed the "Red Arrow of Death"
  15. Got it, I was going in the opposite direction. The right click setting and the config setting are different. Thanks
  16. Never paid attention until recently when I reduced the size of the Gnom from huge to something a little less intrusive. The issue comes in when I want to edit the plane, which is often. Doing that the plane size reduces by almost 50% and I have to lean in to the monitor to see the tag areas to manipulate it. Is there a setting for the "edit" size???
  17. There are hard lessons to learn in setting a datum below a part highest point. There are as many ways to accomplish a part as there are stars in the sky. In the end, you want something that runs in a reasonable time, produces a good part and is easily understandable by anyone that may be looking at your processes. That's why you see the suggestions on tool holders, adding notes in operation fields etc. etc. The more diligent and obsessive you are with this, the more successful you will be. Learn good habits now so you don't have to retrain yourself later.
  18. Machining is truely becoming a lost art. My recommendation would be to get to the basics and get out in the garage and make something. Get in to a manufacturing job and learn the ground basics. L:ike millman says, it's not a video game, it's a computer interface with real world ramifications. By all means keep learning and asking questions!!! Being inquisitive is a huge bonus. I have been doing this a very long time and I still do a huge percentage of troubleshooting and finding out "why" something isn't working.
  19. Speaking of copies, I always put a "safe" copy offsite just in case the building burns down. There can never be enough backup!!!
  20. Yes, I have use tools speeds selected in macvhine group. Yes, I didn't say but lock feedrates is on. Regardless, sometimes feeds are not locked, sometimes they are.
  21. What exactly are the conditions for the speed and feed to populate automatically from the tool settings when "use tools step, peck coolant" is checked on the group properties page? My experience is sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't. When selecting a tap, it usually always immediately populates. I've also watched it take a few seconds then grab the data. I can't find something that is consistent enough to say "these circumstances make it trigger" Just selecting another tool then reselecting isn't always enough. Yeah Yeah, just re-initialize..........but sometimes I miss it. That's when it gets annoying to myself and management.
  22. Did you define "air" edges" ?? you can make these toolpaths do many different things but playing with geometry selection.
  23. I make the name the same as the .NC file. Seems logical to me. I do this by selecting the .NC file and backing out the .NC Isn't it a windows protocol to ADD the extension when saving a file if it's not in the name??? Every once in a while I forget to change the extension and it actually overwrites the nc file with the pdf file. Plus1 for option to change name
  24. Garr end mills and other brands all have different grinds. They do this to try to stand apart. My experience with standard Garr is they have no wear landing and are chatter prone. I've programmed cuts and made an endmill change and it goes from working well to not at all. What about dynamic milling? Might work to get the engagement to eliminate chatter.
