  1. I make the name the same as the .NC file. Seems logical to me. I do this by selecting the .NC file and backing out the .NC Isn't it a windows protocol to ADD the extension when saving a file if it's not in the name??? Every once in a while I forget to change the extension and it actually overwrites the nc file with the pdf file. Plus1 for option to change name
  2. Garr end mills and other brands all have different grinds. They do this to try to stand apart. My experience with standard Garr is they have no wear landing and are chatter prone. I've programmed cuts and made an endmill change and it goes from working well to not at all. What about dynamic milling? Might work to get the engagement to eliminate chatter.
  3. Random thoughts Just that little checkbox for regeneration is enough to keep me using 2022. Granted still a n00b to MC. started on 2020 BTW, There is also Ctrl-click for selecting hole features!!! Instead of importing groups, I have done that, I prefer to open a file of a similar part, merge a new model and save as the new part. Maybe I just am not checking the right boxes, but import doesn't give the best results.
  4. KISS Don't overthink it. Make it so someone coming in with no prior knowledge of the setup can easily see what you are doing. Also, once you decide on a way of doing things, stick with it. Ive seen guys overcomplicate things so much it is better easier more reliable to just start over. All good ideas above there's likely a limited number of options that make sense on organizing. I generally do one OP one group, but I do low qty type work. I use every note field available as much as possible with plain language to explain the detail.
  5. i have run into this and have somewhat retrained myself to "click away" as you describe. Still catches me if I try to go to fast. I am not sure if it's a click recognition glitch in MC or a windows click issue, but I believe it to be an issue that could be corrected. I noticed after an operation move there can be a remaining OP selected, but not selected. Doing the click away or just select something else then going back activates it correctly but the selected display does not always mean that the OP is active.
  6. Edit 2 Agree. Maybe an enhancement request on the MC forum would be good. Step, peck coolant is way too inclusive. It also includes feeds and speed unless you have the lock button checked. Then it may or may not update the "cycle" when you re-initialize on the operation page. Too much going on with too little options. Same tool several CYCLES, same tool several FEEDRATES!!!! I have developed my habits, but it could definitely be improved. Sometimes its the little things....
  7. I've noticed that the "letter" function is not modal. Is there a setting for that? I made a key shortcut for arc center because I use that a lot
  8. I am also interested in this. The list shows a gap in the operation numbers and that's the only way to know if there is something there. I use it mostly to trigger a program stop with notes.
  9. Its kinda internet normal to get 50 replies and 50 different answers. My initial takeaway is acknowledgement that hands on experience is a thing of the past. My experience is the so called "book" gives a range and is only a guide to get you in the ballpark. I've run a 3/4 em to 50% cutwidth at 1-5/8 depth and it works. Granted it was one small corner plunge and the rest was light side cuts. My first go to with chatter is to increase feed by increasing feed or reducing speed. There is always always always going to be fine tuning to be done. Too many variables in setup, tool, tool brand tec.
  10. There are settings for that I think
  11. I was told once "metal is plastic" also true in it's way but I like the dirt analogy!!
  12. On this one I call it Russian roulette, I prefer to see what side I am machining on. Call me picky but...... They call it the practice of medicine, but we machinists don't get that luxury.
  13. Found it!! Here is my 2021 config settings. 1 little checkbox. Now. my question is why would there even be an option to turn off display of those arrows???
  14. I'm guessing it's something here?? I didn't migrate smoothly to 2022. I was able to copy over my config files so I am surprised this is so hard to see.
  15. Where in the holy heck is the display setting to turn on direction and machining side arrows in the chain manager. I can click away then click back on a chain and it pops up, but that will make me diabolically insane after a few more days.
  16. Your boss is a jerk!!! hahaha I can totally relate to this..
  17. Sys config has a check box setting "suppress associativity warning messages" Bottom of the list, under toolpaths
  18. So, it's exactly like subgroups but different!!!!!
  19. Can you explain how this works or what it does for you?? "Level set Displays the level set value of the selected level. You can also edit the level set of the selected level by typing a different value in the field."
  20. Tool library is a body of work with high value. I always have multiple copies in multiple locations, I have done this since the beginning, even when I was the only one programming.
  21. You mean machines from the 21st Century?? lol
