  1. We are looking at getting a Mazak 815/80 5 axis machine. We have no knowlege of 5 axis, Looking for advice as to what it takes to get it up and running? Specifically, How well does Mastercam work for 5 axis? Is there post/does anyone have a post that we could purchase? What experience does a programmer and machinist need to be able to grasp 5 axis work and setups. Any other info that anyone would care to share to help us be successful in this new adventure. Thanks Glenn
  2. Sorry about that, when I go in, it shows a link to the pay. I think that it is pretty good for the area's, Boeing usually is. As far as the cost of living, I don't know anything about that. I do enjoy working for Boeing. Their pay and benafits are terrific, they also have a great retirement plan, pay for your education, vacation, sick. Pretty much you name it, they have it. Aside of paying me to stay home and play. Apply, and see what happens. You can always say NO Glenn
  3. This is what I get when I have the boxes checked in the control def. N140G0G90G54X0.Y0.S534M3 N150G43H1Z.1M8 N160G99G83Z-2.5R.1Q.826F4.28 N170G80 N180M5 And unchecked produces this N120T1M6( 1/2 DRILL TOOL - 1 DIA. OFF. - 51 LEN. - 1 DIA. - .5) N130G05.1Q1 N140G0G90G54X0.Y0.S534M3 N150G43H1Z.1M8 N160G1Z-.726F4.28 N170G0Z.1 N180Z-.626 N190G1Z-.887 N200G0Z.1 N210Z-.787 N220G1Z-1.048 N230G0Z.1 N240Z-.948 N250G1Z-1.209 N260G0Z.1 N270Z-1.109 N280G1Z-1.37 N290G0Z.1 N300Z-1.27 N310G1Z-1.531 N320G0Z.1 N330Z-1.431 N340G1Z-1.692 N350G0Z.1 N360Z-1.592 N370G1Z-1.853 N380G0Z.1 N390Z-1.753 N400G1Z-2.014 N410G0Z.1 N420Z-1.914 N430G1Z-2.175 N440G0Z.1 N450Z-2.075 N460G1Z-2.336 N470G0Z.1 N480Z-2.236 N490G1Z-2.5 N500G0Z.1 N510M5 Which is what I understand you to want. 4. All that I know about that, is that whenever I access them from inside the Boeing system, there is all kinds of warnings about protecting info. So they have drilled into us not to pass any info on to outside parties. It is the purchasing dept's responsiblity to ensure that vendors are approved to recieve any info, before they send it. If it comes to getting fired over something, I'll try to error on the side of safty. Glenn P.S. If it is for a boeing part, your purchaser should give you the info for FREE!!
  5. Rick, I have access, but unfortunatly, I can't share them with you. Boeing prohibits people from sending Proprietary information out to just anyone. If this is for a Boeing part, you will need to contact your Boeing purchasing agent to supply you with the necessary data. Sorry Glenn
  6. I think that in X2, you can also do it by unchecking the drill cycles in Control definition/Machine Cycles/Mill Drill Cycles. HTH Glenn
  7. Most of my stuff has been learned at the School of Hard Knocks. Luckily, this forum, and all of the masters that are willing to help, has kept my from wearing the wall out. Glenn
  8. We use wear here, but personally I like control better. It lets me double check the gcode when I have issues on the machine when something doesn't work. We also have had several programs that was programmed with wear comp that wasn't applied correctly. They were run for 6 months or so and all of the sudden, they quit making acceptable parts. The problem was that we had new cutters when the program was created, and now we have resharps. Some of them would alarm out, some would apply comp to only one axis. So when you use full, you know that the program will always be good after your first part tryout. Glenn
  9. Matt, I think if you click the link it, I think it will tell you what the payscale is. Colin, Ya trying to hire me away from Boeing-SLC? Glenn P.S. Heard that you met a couple of us at the conference. They even said you were a emastercam forum junkie, having it up on your laptop all the time.
  10. It used to be with mastercam 7, or 8, I don't remember for sure which. That the license of Cimco gave you permision to copy it to one other machine. I am not sure that this is the case anymore. I would also ask the question? If you bought 3 seats of mastercam 9, and then bought 6 seats of mastercam X, can you use cimco on all 6 seats of X. It doesn't ship with it anymore, so you don't really get a license for it. Just wondering. Glenn
  11. I've tried that, there web site errors out when I fill out the contact info, so I had another email for them that I sent, and have recieved no answer as of yet. Just checking all options. Thanks Glenn
  12. We are using your Catia converter to with some Catia V5 models here at Boeing and it keeps shutting mastercam down. If we convert a model that is what our engineers call a dumb model, it will work fine. Boeing is now requiring to use a RLM (relational link modeling??) in which there are links to other catia models. They are using a program called Enovia to manage all of the files in the Relational Design. Would you happen to have any info on how to make the converter work with this process? Any one have this issue. Thanks Glenn
  13. If you put in 0 for the angle and 0,0 for the xy point, you will get a mirror about x, or all of your y+ become y-, and vice-versa. If you enter 90 degrees for the angle and 0,0 for the xy, you will then mirror about y, or all of the x+ become x-, and vice-versa. The help menu for the angle block says "Use this field for the rotation of the mirror axis angle in degrees. I think that this would let you mirror about any given angle. HTH Glenn
  14. Rick, I work for Boeing, and can tell you that the BACP20AX is a good #. But Boeing procedures will not allow me to send you that information. Your purchasing contact for Boeing should be able to assist you on that aspect. There are some very detailed and serious steps that must be taken when providing suppliers with Boeing Proprietary information. Sorry, that I couldn't get you the specifics, if your Boeing contact needs help, have them email me. HTH Glenn
  15. quote: I will have as many as 50 or so parts up on the table so I do not really want to go in and manually edit the tool path. I think that for right now I will place them automatically then go in and move them. If these are the same part, why not us the Transform/Translate toolpath functions? Then you have to only edit one toolpath. We do this on all of our router parts. We also use sub routines, and that really reduces the NC file size. JM2C Glenn
  16. I like the stage tool function. With the M01 at the end of the preceeding tool path, my machine will stop, and I can see the cutter that I just got through using. I can then hit cycle start and "Baby sit" the tool change and start of the new tool. JM2C Glenn P.S. Yes, it is the staged tool routines.
  17. "Also, you may stage the tool like any old Fanuc by calling the tool without an M06 next to it. This will bring the pocket down to ready position regardless of the mentioned M codes (M00, M01) in case you don't want to edit your programs." There is an option in the mastercam machine parameters. It then will(if the post is setup right) put the T# in the program like so N1410M01 N1420G0G17G40G49G80G90 N1430T1M6(1/2" ROUGHER TOOL - 1 DIA. OFF. - 51 LEN. - 1 DIA. - .5) N1440G05.1Q1 N1450G0G90G54X.32Y.3407S4500M3 N1460G43H1Z.25M8T2 (HERE IT IS) This then has the tool ready when you get to the next tool change. Notice that my M01 is before the tool call. This works on our Fanuc controls as well as some new Centurion controls we have here. HTH Glenn
  18. quote: Could you run a server with the hasp in it and have multiple work stations? Yep, but it is called netHasp, and you still have to have 2 seats to have 2 seats running at the same time. But there is a huge advantage in that you can have lots of computers with Mcam on them, but you can only have the number of seats you have on the netHasp open at any one time. HTH Glenn
  19. David, Have you tried creating them as named views? You can copy the top and name it G55 with an offset of 1, you can then create your rotary view and name it G54 with a 0 for the offset. This is how it works for us. HTH Glenn P.S. We never use the regular views, we always name them. That way when we look at something, we just have to select Gview/named and pick what setup we are doing. It then shows the same as it is on the machine.
  20. quote: David, How come you didn't put your geo on all of those 5000 different levels. LOL. Sorry, couldn't resist. Lee. I did, but now I have to go thru 4999 of them before I can find the right level. Next thing you know you'll want me to name the level. Then I have to remember what the name was. Glenn
  21. If I don't need the old, but want to keep the toolpaths, I just delete everything before I do the import. If I want to keep it, I change the levels to something that will not be used with the new imported geo, before I do the import. HTH Glenn PS I do this alot with similar items. If you have a good process, you just need the new geo. Your tools, feeds, speeds and offsets are already set up. You can really fly thru parts by just selecting the geometry this way.
  22. Thad, I am not completly sure about this, but I know that winXP has a different sort order. http://windowsxp.mvps.org/xpsortorder.htm This bugged me for a while, because my order looks so much different. I have files that start with a 6 before files that start with a 1. I just started using the process that Belly up uses. HTH Glenn P.S. I know that doesn't really help, but might explain it a little bit.
  23. I havn't been to this sight from outside, but from inside the Boeing system, there is a place that shows the pay range. You might be able to see it if you create an ID to get that far. The range is pretty big from bottom to top. And I would think it is very comparible to most places. I don't know if it is against policy to publish the range here, so I will take the safe road and not do it. The req also says that there is some relocation money available so that could be a consideration. HTH Glenn
  24. I agree with John, and Chris. Upon scanning through the document(250 pages is a bit much to read right now) I could only find it defining the dia. symbol. Not that using it defines the tolerance. If you have a particular paragraph, I could check it out. HTH Glenn
  25. Hello all, We are looking at buying a new machine. We have narrowed it down to 3. Cincinnati FTV 840-3700, Mazak SVC 2000L/120, or a Monarch TVMC-3000. Any input about pro's/con's of these machines would be appriciated. Thanks Glenn
