  1. Sometimes our spindles will last 9 months and sometimes they will last 6 weeks. We always warm it up and cool it down. We run our spindle between 14,000-16,000rpm when using diamond coated tooling. With carbide we usually stay around 3,000-12,000 rpm depending on what we are cutting. I agree with Jeff seems like luck of the draw. Sometimes the company that rebuilds our spindles does it under warranty.
  2. We can choose between squat thrusts and jumping jacks. I want them to let me bring in my exercise steps so I can aerobicise. At our shop you run the machine and program and clean up and drive the fork and set up and sand, etc. And if you have time you can work on the books, not read them.
  3. I like to create edge flanges and stuff like that. I typically use a containment border with the cutter constrained to the center of the border line. Which is in the center of the flange. If I don't set up a flange normal to the surface sometimes it will want to jump down in certain spots. Organization is the key. Definitely takes more time, but makes me feel more comfortable.
  4. We don't have solids in MC. But in Inventor if you have constraints set up between stock, holes, geometry, etc. Everything moves together.
  5. Sorry to hear about that Jim! Been there. Bill
  6. Something I also do is after create curves and simplify. Turn off all levels except curves. Delete all duplicates. Bill
  7. That's good news. I've been using Vista at home but not at work. I'm sure more and more people will be making the switch as they get new computers.
  8. We had issues with creating curves on all edges. But nothing with projecting geometry.
  9. Cool video, I would like to get Camtasia to ad some videos to our website. I like the Blend toolpath also but our projects are too big and the blend toolpath can take hours to gen.
  10. I would rather hit save when I'm at a good point to save rather than have the autosave run at set intervals. You may be in the middle of something and everything slows way down on your computer when autosave runs. Backups are hit or miss with us. It doesn't seem to backup everytime you hit save. We also have an external hard drive/backup drive we run every night.
  11. Thanks Rickster! Looks like 30970 hasn't been fixed. Maybe we will still give it a shot next week.
  12. We downloaded but haven't installed so I can't see the Read Me file. If anyone has the time please copy and paste the detailed list of bugs fixed in this thread. Or if it is too much info maybe someone can put it on the ftp. We are going to try and make the switch on Monday. Thanks! Ployd
  13. quote: Then again I'm not really working in a production environmnet so things are a little different for me. CNC hit the nail on the head. I'm against jumping in with both feet until you have a chance between jobs. Or a job that allows you some flexibility. All of our work is one off custom. We very rarely do any multiple parts. So we don't have the time to address any software problems. We did however install X2MR2 right away and had problems and went straight back to MR1. I mean you don't want to fall to far behind, or you have problems with operating system issues, etc. I also don't think it is a good idea to have multiple versions of the same software on one computer. Sometimes you can have problems.
  14. We are still waiting for them to fix the create curves on all edges. We use that function all the time. We went back to MR1 cause the function was corrupted or lost in MR2. Great for making containment borders. Gotta do what you gotta do. Plus MR2 still seems a little unstable unless you are willing to get rid of previous versions and jump in fully to MR2. create curves thread Mike sorry to hear your having problems! Upgrading can be good and bad. Merry Christmas! The kids are asleep and I have some work to do.
  15. I'm sure nobody on this forum is using any type of software that they didn't purchase legaly.
  16. Yeah, that is basically what you see on mass production cabinets at Lowes, Home Depot, RV's etc. Solid MDF with a vinyl skin overtop and roundend corners where they should be square. It would be nice to see smeone take the time to run a couple extra progams to square the corners.
  17. Yeah, I don't see a big need for it where I work. We do have a 5 axis router. I was thinking that it would be something I would enjoy playing around with. I was just asking for a ball park not what anyone paid for it. Now I have a ball park so thank you danbo. Like I said I don't talk to our reseller which is fine by me. I'm not the one writing the check. Our reseller is very nice by the way I just don't want to waste their time if it out of my range to personally by the software. Thanks! Bill
  18. I know we don't talk about what we pay for software but can someone tell me the price range for Art? I don't ever have contact with our reseller. The powers that be always talk to them. But I'm just curious to find out about how much it costs. Thanks! Bill
  19. Yeah, we used to cut an Asian wood all the time on a manual metalworking lathe, with Digital Readout. It is very similar to Mahogany, very hard and dense. It was the support beams on all the pallets we received from Taiwan. The best thing is sanding while it is on the lathe. It makes it so easy. We just used a carbide cutter.
  20. Wall Lumber Company Architectual Woods Inc.
  21. Thanks for all the great info!
  22. I try to keep the number of apps on my computer to a minimum. I hate installing anything unnecessary. That is why I choose to use IE. Like everyone says, it's there anyway. Works fine.
  23. We have an old school 21" monitor that is about the size of a small dorm fridge. It is so big and heavy we had to have a structural engineer come in and build supports! Maybe it will crap out one day and we will get a new flat panel. Maybe even two.
  24. Here is a Starrett Center Finder This is also a cool collet adaptor from Starrett collet Thanks! for the quick replies, Happy Holidays
  25. Beardog, I know what you mean. When I go to my friends house I can't stand to watch his wide screen tv because it makes everything wider unless it is on HD. I'm not sure if MC gets streched out when using the wide screen flat panel monitors. Ocean Lackey is there a setting somewhere for what type of monitor you use?
