There are a couple of ways this can happen but if it's been running for a couple of years,
I'm guessing the seat that won't run now was a 1 or 2 year subscription and it's time is up
Unshading (Alt S) will reduce the dominance solids while trimming
and the wireframe only filter works as well.
I normally keep solids and wireframe on separate levels and turn the solids level off if I have serious trimming to do.
well yes... that could get very exiting when pocket roughing op #2242 gets quietly deleted
and your finish endmill dives into solid stock to finish the pocket.
We've got a half dozen Postability Machine Sim's here.
I've updated several of them to MC2024 with no issues.
I asked Postability about a 2024 Post enabler install and was told it is not necessary.
All of the Machine Sims and Postability posts I've updated so far work properly.
That doesn't necessarily mean your machine sim does not need a Post Enabler
but I would certainly try updating to 2024
That's how you grow your user base
In 1997 I had decided CAD/CAM would be the future and I needed to learn.
There was no internet to do research with and I was using TekSoft/Procad
because that's what our local machine dealer sold me. I had never heard of Mastercam.
The local community college was offering a 2 semester Mastercam program (v5) so I took it.
I think TekSoft/Procad was a better product in 1995 but Mastercam was the only class I could take so I signed up.
Why did you let TS go??
That was a big investment which will eventually die on the vine.
A previous manager let our hyperMIll seat go in 2017 and it continued to run OK.
We recently got a massive package of new parts that I use hyperMill to rough and I convinced
my current manager to get back on maintenance. Open Mind made us a really good deal and
it was well worth the expense as the software has improved a lot over the last 6 releases.
As MC CAD has added more features, I use SW less and less.
I find the Translate by Planes and Translate to Origin especially useful.
We have a skilled Catia designer now who provides us with CAM ready Catia models,
so I rarely do full on modeling anymore. My SW skills are suffering as a result.
save the fixed holder as wireframe to a level
use that wire to revolve a solid and save it as a step file
open a busted holder file and redefine it by picking the new step file
once you have the step file made, it shouldn't take more that a minute to repair
one of the misbehaving holders
I am surprised to find that X4 is still available for download
Go to the Downloads page at Mastercam.com then go to the Legacy page
Of course you will need a valid Mastercam license to run it
Next time you try that file set the chaining tolerance to .008"
That was his default tolerance.
Default chaining tolerance is .0001" and toolpath and solid chains are failing.
If you want tool projection to be longer than 2.25" you must make the tool longer too
Go into the tool geometry page and adjust the over all length to 4"
then adjust the stick out on the Holder page
or the edit assembly page
I can't think of a good reason to be taking classes on 10 year old software, but if that is the case
your instructor should be able to supply you with a copy of X4 Home Learning Edition
here is a Unified Parallel solution.
Let me know when you've got it as I will delete the upload soon to preserve my storage allotment
gcode MORPH TRIAL.zip
Agreed .. that old V9 file was all legacy 5X and a lot of 3+2 Project to Surface toolpaths using thousands of hand drawn chains
It would be fun to open an old copy of that file in X23 just to see what happens
Back in the day one of my co workers did a huge file for a 5X gantry mill in V9
The initial release took about 6 months, but he worked on it off and on for couple of years.
It was over 600 meg in file size and contained 700+ operations
His PC took about 40 minutes to open it in the morning and saves to the network usually failed.
He kept the file on his PC and backed it up to a CD every night. The PC's hard drive had to be replaced every 4 to 6 months.
I've often wondered how that file would perform in X23 or X24 on a modern PC
I moved your post to the Post thread where it will get more eyeballs
I believe this error is your older post not recognizing the new deburr toolpath
The simplest way to fix this would be to download the 2023 3X post fro0m the Tech Exchange
True,,, but in typical Mastercam programmers fashion, the user base has pushed this new feature far beyond
the design intent of the people who developed it
using 2024 here.
The ModuleWorks 5X toolpaths get better every year and are worth the work it takes to upgrade
I do get sick of upgrading posts though .. We've got about 30 of them
I like how hyperMill does it... the Okuma 5X post I bought in 2013 still runs fine in 2023
