  1. I think the developers at the ivory tower spend more time listening to people teaching newbs Mastercam and much less time listening to the folks who make a living using Mastercam. I can see how having it it all tied together would streamline the teaching environment, but in my case it's just one more thing that I have to develop work arounds for.
  2. They are issuing temp licenses for those who are down. You can read the whole thing on Mastercam.com
  3. Still down ... going on 48 hours now. I'll bet they are getting some UGLY phone calls!
  4. There are good and bad points to both methods. If you forget your hasp at work, you have 2 options, drive back into town and get it or don't work. With a software license, you can VPN into your work machine, deactivate the license and reactivate it on your home machine. You can also lose or damage a HASP. I've never lost mine, but I misplaced it once. After an hour of frantic searching, I found in laying on the garage floor. It had fallen out of my pocket while I was getting out my keys. My wife actually ran over it when she pulled into the garage, It's a little bent, but it still works. I don't carry my hasp in my pocket anymore.
  5. I renewed maintenance in August and was invited to change over to software licensing. I declined. They way I understand it, Mastercam will still run on a PC with an active license, you just can't move it to another machine. and If you deactivated a license at work, planning to reactivate it at home, you won't be able to run Mastercam till the servers are back up.
  6. If you have a software license, do not deactivate it because you won't be able to turn it back on At this time, an ETA for service restoration is unknown. From Masterca.com Mastercam Licensing Server Outage – Updated 10/19/2023 2:20 PM EST October 18, 2023 at 2:14 pm 1 like We are currently experiencing a technical issue with our Mastercam Licensing server and do not have an estimate on when this issue will be addressed. The host of our licensing services experienced a hardware failure in their data center. They are continuing to work on replacing the hardware and getting the systems back online. This issue impacts new Mastercam software license activation/deactivation attempts. All Mastercam licenses activated before this outage will continue to work. Do not deactivate any current licenses until the services are restored. We will continue to update this message as we have additional information to share. Thank you for your understanding. 7. Un check something, then recheck is it thinks the settings have changed Then Click OK That should launch a file overwrite yell
  8. drag the slider all the way to the right The File/Options... check the "Always use the 5-axis engine" button Click OK, the select Yes to save a new default file
  9. yes... this is a recognized issue... and a fix will be released ... soon

  13. dumb question.. have you tried moving or renaming the second post. The control deg can't link to it if it's not there
  14. at this place 2 parts is a rarity 4 of the same part running at the same time is a once in a blue moon occasion. our regular parts have tool boxes that are supposed to contain all the tools needed to run that part. with the usual one off part, we just load the tools right out of the box and into the spindle loading them in the tool magazine is a waste of time
  15. me neither. maybe it's something simple.... like ready only rights to the public share folders ?????
  16. No You could save the geometry as a step file and take that back but the toolpaths are not backwards compatible. You best bet would be for both of you to download the Home Learning Edition from Mastercam.com HLE Download That way you'll both be on the same release and using the newest version.
  17. When editing Machine or Control Definitions, I have always followed this routine. From the Ribbon Bar 1. Open the Machine Def and make required edits 2. From the Machine Def, open the Control Def and make required edits 3. Save the edited Control Def, then Save the edited Machine Def. I agree that you should be able to just open the Control Def and make required edits but it doesn't seem to work I started doing it per the steps shown above and have never had a problem.
  18. Your Mastercam dealer is the best place to start There are 5X Haas and generic fanuc posts available for download on the Tech Exchange at Mastercam.com. There are also machine specific posts for sale there You can buy excellent posts from In House ( the owers of this website) and Postability
  19. You can also chain the contour twice to get a spring pass
  20. The last thing I do before going home for the day is reboot my machine.
  21. BY default, System Config is set with no limits on the number of Undo events it stores or the file size of the undo cache. If you are creating a lot of geometry, the number of events and the undo cache can chew up a lot of RAM and buffer file space. Back in the early X days I used to get a lot of crashes when working on some types of files. Setting undo limits stopped these crashes. Now days my computers are more powerful and the software and OS are much better. I don't have these crashes and I've gotten lazy about setting limits. Try setting some limits here and see if it helps
  22. Soldis take more horsepower than surfaces. I program 5X impellers ranging from Ø35" to Ø72" Historically I've always created the surfaces I need to drilve my toolpaths We were originally supplied with only IGES files containing points tables, lines and splines Recently our customer has gone to model based definitions with no points.... and at the same time Mastercam 2024 has gotten much better at solid chaining and using solid surfaces for driving 5X toolpaths Last month I tried programming an impeller using only the solid model. Chaining the curves and picking the solid surfaces was really easy. The toolpaths crunched quickly and yielded excellent motion. Hower, the more operations there were in my file, the slower toolpath parameter pages took to open. The more toolpaths I added, the slower it got, to the point it was taking 20 to 30 seconds to open a toolpath. By this time the file was about 350meg and I was at a standstill. I ended up going back about halfway through the file, creating surfaces from solids and reselecting those to get the file finished. It was a disappointing result as the workflow at the start was really nice and selecting my geometry directly from the solid model was a huge time saver.
  23. If you are not using the Ribbon Access Keys, turn them off If you are using them... ???
  24. Our Okuma 5X lathe (VTM-1200) didn't come with any CDC It was a $12K upgrade
  25. what tool plane are you using for drilling we use Right for VTL's with our Postability posts.
