If you plan to use 3d toolpath and can use ball mill you can use it in many cases instead of 5x toolpath ,cause for shallow angles you can always hase same width of letters using a ball
Welcome to the board ,frad1004
you better not project them on surface but in case of a cylinder roll them onto cylinder
In case of a surface use map.dll to transfer them
Check my dirty trick for lot of examples on this
topic
And use curve5x toolpath
If you have Mastecam art it has some nice feature for 4x toolpath on a cylinder too
In case of a cylinder you can use common
contour toolpath with axis substitution

Downrate with the chord height will speed your zooming and panning while in shade .IOW ,make chord height greater you will loose some quality and gain speed
When full-time shading is turned on, you can use the Shading Settings dialog box to define shading parameters such as color, ambient lighting, spot lighting, and other properties for the current drawing session.
~~~~~~~~~~
¨ Chord height. Enter a tolerance value for calculating surface shading. A lower tolerance produces smoother, more precise shading results.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
Also you can use partial shade .
Do not use gradient background ,Translucent and custom light schemes

Funny that all these ppl can make it work but one that
doesnt have enough smarts to get it going has to whine.
~~~~~~~~~~~
I simply don`t want migrate to X2 now . I don`t whine .
Kota - you impudent ,ignorant and stupid SOB .
First of all learn to be polite and respect others and then start to demand .
And do not pretend it is because you are
not English born mother;
~~~~~~~~~~~``
I am "not english born mother " too
I have a hole .066 diameter. Endmill is .060 diameter. I made a 2-d contour with the circle chained and lead in/out set to perpendicular .001 and 0 arc
~~~~~~~~~~
That`s a mistake ,if your setting is control compensation
need to be 0.031
I had this problem once .
Easily solved ,though
on plane perpendicular to axes rotATION DRILLAND BORE TWO HOLES FOR PINS 10 MM ON DISTANCE 100 MM FOR EXAMPLE
Now index it on zero angle and find one pin center
set in on some angle ,find the increment distance in
two axes
set on the different angle and find it once more
Now you can find your center like in radiolocation with triangulation
You can do it with one pin too .
Two pins better if your part is bigger than the table
Mastercam X2 Service Pack 1
CNC Software has released Mastercam X2 SP1. Please view the Whatsnew.htm file for detailed information on the bug fixes in the service pack. The "whatsnew.htm" file can be found in the documentation folder of after your X2 SP1 installation.
To download X2 SP1, please click the following link: http://www.mastercam.com/Support/Downloads...X2/Default.aspx. Next, right-click "mastercamx2-servicepack001.exe," select "Save link as" and choose a download location. Once you have downloaded the *.exe file, double-click it and follow the installation instructions. Keep in mind that X2 must be installed on your system since SP1 runs on top of X2 (it is not a standalone installation.)
Please note that an "Uninstall" folder will be created within your X2 directory. These are the backed up X2 files which are restored if X2 SP1 is uninstalled. To uninstall X2 SP1, go into Control Panel and double-click the “Add/Remove Programs” applet followed by clicking “Remove” next to “Mastercam X2 Service Pack 1.” It is important to uninstall X2 SP1 before uninstalling X2, otherwise the "mcamx/uninstall" directory will remain and could cause problems if a future release is installed to the same location. The required maintenance date does not change if X2 SP1 is installed.
The patch is also available via the Update Service (in X2, Help, Update Mastercam). X2 will not recognize that there is an update available if "mastercamx2-patch001.exe" (also available on the Mastercam Support / Downloads section) was not previously installed.
if your mage quality is low ,no tracer can make it good .
like low-res, contrast or deflection .
I have a lot of experience in this field
I had run tests raster-to Vector 4Mastercam against
CorelTrace against Wintopo .
Sometimes CorelTtrace makes it a bit better than MC
,sometimes raster2vctor 4 Mastercam ,every time Wintopo is close to them ,but always loose a bit
But if your image is 200*150 dpi don`t expect too much
You do not need to save it as stl
You can use any format such as Mc* ,sat or Iges
What have I found the best option is to have one solid file .
I usually save my fixture in separate level and make boolian add everything
Less chances to get not water-tight error
