  6. DavidB ... Check out http://www.mscdirect.com/PDF.process?pdf=1606&x=5&y=6 (Middle of page) Dave (AKA CAMmando teh forgetful blah blah blah)
  7. Wirecut blanking die, stripper and punch. Started milling an aluminum aircraft antenna. Cant say which aircraft but it has a letter and some numbers separated by a dash.
  8. Yo Phil, There should be a chook on the ftp called stl2surf or some such thing. Should solve your problem. Dave (AKA CAMmando who lost his forum password)
  9. +(5-1)/2^2 to chris (thats +1 BTW) We are looking at the same thing here. For repeat jobs, we are actually beginning to make up "shadow board" type "Trays" with cutouts for each tool and an area to store extras. We make up a little parts list sheet with tool part numbers for everything in the kit. The parts list gets laminated and attached to the inside of the lid. If you are setting up the jobs every week, consider buying enough holders to keep the tools stored with the holders out of the machine. If properly stored you should be able to retain the tool length offset numbers so you dont have to reset the tools for each setup.

  12. I beleive a simple pocket selecting axis substitution rotate about X axis will do what you want. A pocket zig zag or one way toolpath will produce X and A moves. In backplot the tool will revolve about the part, in verify the part will rotate about the a axis. Chack out the rolldie.mc9 in the samples folder. look at the first toolpath (the roughing path). 13. Free Mouse Pad To whoever gueses what the hek he's talking 'bout On the subject of hammering guys who badmouth MC, I was a bit taken back by this at first, and think the flaming should wait (at least 'til post #2 ) but I also bleong to the Cadkey Forum. Right wrong or indifferent that forum turned into nothing but a bi!@# session. wading through the same posts from the same whiners to find legitimate posts is at times a daunting task. So I understand the "nipping in the bud". In the case of the post at hand, litnin has posted 4 times and really hasnt clarified what he is trying to do that MC doesnt do well.
  14. So Jack, lemme see if I get it ... Im cookin' for my date. Rather than admit my culinary inadequacies, I scrape the globs of spaghetti out of the pot smother with enough sauce (it acts like a solvent) to get it to separate. Dump the (probably burnt) crumbled hamburger on top. And say something to the effect of "you really want it dont ya babe" with the utmost confience. Then when we're done, say something like "It was good for you too huh ?" I learn so much in here.
  15. Fire Dragon e'mailed me requesting a copy of that 5 Axis post, but I see his e-mail's still hidden on the forum. Dave teh "Fisherman"
  16. Just programmed a part that had to have machined chamfers all over. This new "adjust start and end" feature on the lead in / lead out page is priceless. No extra drive geometry do create just drive of the edge curves of the model and walk off or stop short using this parameter. Dave teh "with time to spare"
  17. Started programing with 9.1 Wire and created new (modified) posts for our charmilles. New post works great (of course this particular job is 2axis cutting only and essentially just a square hole with open tolerance) ohhhh challange. On the other hand tooling up for another "Superpart" yes thats what our mrketeering experts call em'. Superpart: pronounced soop-er'-part n. any part having all of the following qualities: 1) Material - Titanium Alloy 2) Tapped Holes #2-56 or smaller x 2.5 D or greater. 3) TIR of diameters and faces < .0002". 4) Size Tols on ID's and OD's < .0002". 5) Surface Finish < 8 microinch. 18. Brent, I have only done 2 axis work so far in 9.1 but I did notice this statement in the whats new. Just ashot in the dark. If a new thread point style is used without a corresponding cut point, the wire will return to the thread point or thread distance when Auto position cut point is selected. Obviously this should be after all skims, but thought might be worth looking at. [ 05-01-2003, 11:31 AM: Message edited by: CPeast ]
  19. Create A Thread "Style" point Create A Cut "Style" Point The thread / cut points should not be on the contour geometry Toolpath/Contour Pick the thread point Pick the chain Pick the cut point Click Done You will notice on the parameters page > "Origin / WCS" page the start point was inherited from the cut point you chained. If no cut point was chained you would need to set teh value of the cut point there or it will default to 0,0. As you already know.
  20. I agree some additional analyze functionality would be a welcome addition. I use Cadkey Tooldesign and modeling prior to bringing into MC. CK has a pretty robust set of verification tools that I miss sorely once I start programming. On the other hand MC has many things that CK doesnt too. Hopefully X will add some of this functionality as it is a productivity booster. Baaad english too lazy to fix [ 04-29-2003, 04:23 PM: Message edited by: CPeast ]
  21. Not to hijack the topic, but I had an experience about 8 years ago or so. Bought an Agie Sprint 20. Nothing but problems with the control and Agie didnt get it fixed so we wound up returning the Agie. Maybe alot has changed since then, but those were the mos God Awful Controls. Dummy Moves, Metric w/out decimals yuk. I asked why the horible .iso format and the explaination I was given was that Agie wanted to maintain backwards compatability with the early (circa '60s) machines. That sounded nuts to me but whatever. It sounds as though the Agie Controls are still a PITA. We are using MC Wire with Charmilles and I have recently been rewriting our posts as they never were perfect for our particular control model. I am now able to take advantage of the auto tabs and reverse skims with power regester calls in teh .iso. Makes for much faster print to part time. Its a shame you couldnt (cant) get the post thing worked out your probably missing out on some good functionality. What have your resellers told you about getting a solid post worked out ?
  22. quote: You may say Where's my reamer,LMAO
  23. Heavy, For small deep holes w/ close tolerance I Wire EDM them when I can. If I cant for some reason, I always pre bore with a boring end mill as you mentioned to true up the hole for position and so the reamer cuts good size. For deeper holes my boring endmills are ground with clearance on the diameter of about .015" to within 1/16" to 1/8" of the cutting end. I also usually radius the end to about 1/2 the anticipated radial depth of cut or .015" whichever is smaller. 16 diameters is probably pushing it depending on material. I did some 1/2" holes about 7" deep this way. I had endmills ground special from 8" long carbide blanks. A local outfit here in PA made em in about a week for about $130 a piece for 2. I only had them fluted about 1 - 1 1/2" the rest was solid and I kept the chips small. Curiuos whats your material and tolerances size / position ? 24. Jerimiah, It seems that the "reverse toolpath" switch introduces the problem. If you uncheck it and regen you will see that the vertical z feed move (blue) turns to rapid (yellow) after the regen. Posted using MPFAN the feeds will be gone. Seems like a bug. Use "create new operations" option as a work around. Dave the "redundant" Dave [ 04-24-2003, 05:17 PM: Message edited by: CPeast ]
