  1. You could make some swept surfaces and trim a solid block to get what you need.
  2. Delcam has a converter that you install on your machine. It allows you to view the file but it costs you $50 to export it.
  3. Thanks for your replies, yes I was hoping for a 2d drawing with dimensions in IGES format. I was told by a new solidworks user that this wasn't possible, I just found that hard to believe. We use UG here and I have no problem doing this. Thanks again.
  4. Hi, is there a way to export solidworks drawings to IGES? I need the drawings, not the Model. Thanks, Neil.
  5. Are you using the Mastercam "File Open" dialog box? If so, you might want to try using the standard windows dialog box. I've had problems in the past (V9) with opening/saving files using Mastercams dialog box. To change it, go to control panel and and click on the Mastercam X icon (might be called X2 now). While you're in there disable the splash screen, this will make Mastercam boot a little quicker. HTH, Neil.
  6. Have you tried using the "Create Helix" option? Damn you guys are fast!
  7. Brian, I use turbo mode all the time and I can save the file as stl for use in other operations, make sure you're in "True solid" mode. Try using turbo mode and the "step" button to step through the verification (play with the move/step settings, I usually start around 500) although this doesn't show the tool, it's does do a pretty good job of showing you what the cutter is doing. I've never had the 0kb problem but I'm still running on V9. Neil.
  8. I have not had much success with rest roughing entering the material, I only use this toolpath if I'm using a ballnose. I don't know why we can't have the same entry options that are available with Rough, Pocket. It may help if you turn off "optimize" (if that option is available in High Speed), but you'll probably end up with a lot of air cutting. HTH, Neil.
  9. Yes, use the solid trim function, when it asks you what to use to trim make sure you're selecting SHEET.
  10. Yes you can. That is the correct procedure to trim a solid with multiple surfaces. Your sheet body must pass completly through the solid body you're trying to trim or it won't work. Also, make sure you don't have any holes where your surfaces meet each other. If you send me the file, I'll give it a shot. You'll have to send it as V9 or X, we don't have X2 yet. Neil.

    Stock

I agree, as a work around I use 2 points to define the stock, then make a dummy toolpath to define the outside shape.
  12. Thanks TKDBB, that looks better. Neil.
  13. We're machining some castings and I'm using an STL that has the the surfaces to be machined offset by 10 mm to represent the raw casting. I'm having problems with restmill plunging into areas in between cuts. If I use a ballnose cutter, this isn't a problem because it can center cut but I'd rather use a bullnose. Anybody have any suggestions? It would be nice to have the same entry options that are available in Surface, Rough, Pocket. This part is programmed in V9, I did had a look at the demo version of X2 but it doesn't seem to be much different. Thanks, Neil.
  14. It's also a good opportunity to learn Unigraphics (NX4) Modeling and Drafting applications if you'd like to expand your horizons.
  15. Thanks Rao, it's a great place to work, lots of variety of 2d and 3d programming. We're still taking resumes, but we do have a couple of promising applicants.
  16. If you iges the solid file out and bring it back into mastercam, it will create surfaces where the solids were.
  17. Hi folks, we are currently looking for a full time programmer with 3d Mastercam experience, Mastercam wire and Unigraphics experience are assets. We are located in Brantford, Ontario, Canada. Please send your resumes to [email protected] or for more info about our company, check us out on the web at www.jpbowmantool.com Thanks, Neil.
  18. Under "Machine Group Properties" there is a "Safety Zone" tab. There are options in there for setting up a Rectangular, Sperical or Cylindrical safety zone, I'm assuming you'd need to have the retract box checked (see above) in order to use these. Neil.
  19. Be careful what you wish for....I got a bill from FedEx on Friday for $35 for duties and taxes from my FREE sweatshirt. Oh well, at least I'm warm and I look good. Neil.
  20. Thanks, last year I raced against a nitrous injected sled that ran a low 8 seconds at over 150 mph. Some days there are more sleds than bikes at the track.
  21. This is me on my turbocharged Hayabusa (430 HP) bracket racing a snowmobile. Click here to watch Turbo-busa-run-4
  22. Don't mean to rub it in, but I got one. They are very nice!! Thanks again.
  23. I also prefer to use either an stl file or the size of the roughing tool as apposed to the previous operation. Play with your gap settings (Restmill tab, gap settings), at times I've increased this to 1.000" to avoid lots of retract moves. Neil.
