  1. I can't offer any input on Pro fold but we use Fast Blank (aka Forming Suite) by FTI. We get results very quickly and the accuracy is pretty good too. I can make a blank in about 30 seconds. It accepts step, iges, vda file types. It will output iges. Neil.
  2. You may want to consider offseting the geometry of the faces you don't want to cut(say .030 clearance) and chain that instead.
  3. I'm with Cobra on this one, parasolid and step are the cats pajamas! I could go the rest of my life without seeing another iges(say "I guess") file.
  4. Thad, unfortunatly I no longer have NX3 on my machine (I can give you a NX4 or NX5 file). I did bring it into NX4 after converting it into IGS. I put a JPG (252.jpg)of what I get in NX4 in the same folder on the FTP. This file is very dirty, lots of mismatched trims. Try spending some time with the simplify and "Direct Modeling" tools in UG, they are very powerful when you have a model without a history tree. The simplify function should be able to patch those holes without any problem. Neil.
  5. Doesn't that figure, as soon as you post, you find the answer in plain site. "Maintain only Maks"!! Must be a Monday! Thanks anyways!!
  6. Good morning all, I have some dirty geometry that I would like to trace over top of. In version 9 I could select my level manager and mask a particular level so I could see it but I would not be able to select it. In the help in X2 it says you can "Make the selection mask active until you turn it off or exit the Mastercam session" but for the life of me I can't seem to figure out how to do this. Thanks, Neil.
  7. Thanks Gunther, this is a great product!
  8. Create a point where you want the cutter to start then chain the point followed by your pocket. Neil.
  9. Choose solids sweep, chain your square then chain your radii.
  10. Hi Matt, I have seen this quite often with version 9. Because of this I still use surfaces to machine to in X2 (it also makes it easier to select check surfaces when they're a different color). Neil.
  11. No problems here either Thad, I'm running NX4 and X2 MR2 SP1 (Mill level 3)with the spaceball 5000 (serial). Perhaps you should try restoring windows to last fridays settings (are your windows auto updates turned on?). Neil.
  12. I believe verify defines a gouge (red area)as interference during a rapid move, not based on a heavy cut. I would check your rapid heights.
  13. Thad, in version 9 we used a customised In-House HTML setup sheet, it worked great and we never had any problems with it. When we went to X2 I decided to try x+, it is much quicker on large programs, in one case it took 8 minutes to post a program to html, in x+ the same program took about 10 seconds. As for excel programs you can download and install "open office" for free from www.openoffice.org Neil.
  14. You must be using an older version, I believe they added this converter at no cost in version X. Neil.
  15. Personally I think it's a rip off that you can't move or rotate a solid unless you have a solids license. Just my opinion though. Neil.
  16. GMS1, create a surface to close in the pocket and save the file as an STL file. now delete this surface. Use surface high speed toolpaths, select rest roughing, under the rest material page set the "compute remaining stock" to "CAD". Go to your operations navigator and select geometry, you'll see a button that says "cad file", select the stl file you made earlier. I've uploaded a file for you called GMS-POCKET nap.zip. HTH, Neil.
  17. Wow! I'm suprised you're thinking about getting rid of UG. What is it that you don't like about it? We use it for tooling design and we love it.
  18. As said above, clear the result color. Mastercam doesn't really support colored faces of solids. However if you create surfaces from solids, they will have the correct colors on them. HTH, Neil.
  19. Thanks Gunther and Robert! Never would have figured that one out.
  20. I notiiced that the "stock left" rounds out to 2 decimal places, for example, if I leave .008" the setup sheet shows .01. Is there any way to change this? Thanks, Neil.
