  1. Racerje, try to check your machine manual or maybe contact the machine manufacture. it is kinda like picking between a 3 flute or a 5 flute for a endmill. Sometimes it might not be worth changing from "half hard" to "hard" if it is a small job or a loose tolerance, but I think generally speaking (Please someone correct me if needed) "Hard" = zero to 5 degrees "Half Hard" = 5 to 15 Degrees "Soft" = 15 and above HTH Lars
  2. bottom line..........you get what you pay for. Some people have had good and bad experience with both.
  3. Is this what you are looking for ? click HTH Lars
  4. Thank you so much for all the info. It could be a cool project, I am not going to do it without having the wheels send out for testing. I like the steering wheel idea, sounds like it would be much less hassle. I told him we will have to sit down over the weekend and talk this project a little further. Again thank you for sharing idea and knowlegde. If it is a go I will defiantly post some pictures. Lars PS.Our VF3 has 20" travel in the Y.
  5. Thanks guys I appreciate you thoughts and wisdom, this for sure convincing me that I need to do a lot more homework before I commit to this project (all that safety stuff kinda slipped my mind, don't want the kid to crash his car ).
  6. Hi guy's Well 23 year old stepsons birthday is coming up, and he is hot on the idea that he and I are going to spend some bonding time machining him some rims for his new car, I would probably been fine writing him a check and take him out for steak, but I guess it could be cool project.....if I know what I am doing So I got Mastercam level 3, and a Haas VF3. 1st. line of questions: 1. What kinda of material 2. What kinda specs. and tolerances 3. Fixtures ? tips and tricks 4. Any specific good websites Thanks Lars
  7. connormac, Thank you for asking that question Tim, Thank you for sharing your knowledge
  8. tryon, you take your tombstones off the pallets? We have 2 Horizontals, Kiwa 2 Pallet and a Matsuura 11 Pallet. In regards to the indexer it really depends on what type of jobs you do, our 1st. was a full 4th, but when it came to the Matsuura I told management that I rather spend the money somewhere else, it really depends on the type of work you do. Now one thing that really hit us hard on the 1st machine was chip evacuation, had never run production, I never realized how big a problem chips could be. Bottom line get augers in that thing and anything equal or better than one of these. Microfine 2 Now in regards to probing. Table probe is a must, go of a "actual" touch probe where the tool physical touch the probe, on our Matsuura we spend the money on a Renishaw "laser" probe (I love the company, great support) not worth the hassle, though it looks cool to costumers. We bought a VF2 that came with a Renishaw spindle probe, I used Mastercams costum drill cycles, and the Renishaw macros, and I am using it as "in progress inspection" I have not gotten it to print out inspection reports yet, but there will be a day. I tell you in my opinion a spindle probe on a Horizontal is like cruise control in a car "you can get by without one, but on those road trips, man ." I offcourse agree with everything James sayes going from 120 to 240 tools on the Matsuura is easy and cheap, and trust me you will get up there. 1000psi through coolant is a must on every machine these days. Just my opinion Lars
  9. Thank you so much, I owe you one gcode
  10. gcode, I am brand new in Mastercam X2 and Solidworks, could you enlighten me in why parasolid vs. just open solidworks file in Mastercam? and why create a coordinate system in solidworks vs. using wcs in Mastercam. Thank you Lars
  11. We also cut 95% 6061 Alu and we used Hangsterfer but I do not know if they changed something , because suddenly we started having a lot of foaming problems on our through spindle coolant machines. We changed to Blaser Swisslube a couple of years ago and have been very happy. We also invested in one of there mixers that fits right on a 55 gallon drum, that thing is right up with Christmas bonuses, no more mixing 5 gallon buckets by hand, and dropping half of it carrying it to the machine.
  12. Do not worry about the spelling my Scandinavian friend, they are use to it
  13. 6061 Aluminum 1/8 diameter drill 10 X D 1000 PSI 15000 rpm 60 ipm no peck change drill every 12.000 holes Thru Spindle Coolant PRICELESS
  14. Dan I do not think there is anything in the "normal" category when it comes to chaining tolerance. If you work with tolerances that require +/-.005 there is no need for your tolerance to be .0001, could cost you headaches as you have right now, but if you work with close tolerances it is importend that your geometry is chained within a tight tolerance. HTH Lars
  15. Was just ready to go nuts over this issue, thank you Eric
  16. Ok after fingers fell asleep today using the standard Dell mouse I desided to visit newegg.com MX Revolution $77.99 including shiping and then there is a $15 rebate, if I actually send it in. Now I just need to sit here long enough looking at Cad/Cams setup, until my drool will shorten out my keyboard, and I would have to visit newegg again
  17. I am trying to get "Right plane"=B0. "Back plane"=B90. "Left plane"=180. and "Front plane"=270. My only reason is.............Thats they I always have had it
  18. Is this possible to change in the post? From the MPmaster post itself: code: # vmc = 0 (horizontal machine) uses the front toolplane as the base machine # view. Well not to be trouble or anything but my zero has always been the "right" side, and I think I would like it to stay there. Thanks Lars
