  1. Yes there should be a switch in the post for IPR. What post are you using?
  2. So I updated the quadro k2200 driver and running much better. Cant believe the IT guys did not do this. They have been working on this for a week. Thanks for the help.
  3. So I will update driver, Check Precision factor - 1 for fastest. And Precision Index what is this for, and does lower number = fastest. Anything else before I do a reinstall? I could not find the hardware acceleration switch in 2017.
  4. I will find out tomorrow but I hope so. We paid 6 grand for it! I know its a Xeon, 32gig, and a quadro.
  5. I am helping my fellow programmer with his problem. He has a high end HP workstation. Ever since moving to 2017 his pc is performing terribly. Our IT guys have ran hardware test on the station for 24 hours with no problems. Mastercam crashes sometimes but the main problem is verify will take hours for a simple part. He works on 1-3 pcs assembles at most. The problems really seem gpu related. I am going to help him in the morning. I thought about re-downloading 2017 and reinstalling. Maybe his download got jacked up. Also, will we loose all his tool list with a reinstall? I am somewhat computer savvy but never installed Mcam. I will also verify that his Quadro drivers are up to date.
  6. I have this problem. Format usb to fat32. That fixed my problem. Although that was a floppy to usb upgrade.
  7. I will try to expand my knowledge of these. Thank you all for responding. I plan to take more 5ax courses soon. Boss has offered to send me to the 2 day Multi Ax in Atlanta at CadCamSolutions. Just waiting the next class to be announced.
  8. Just thinking, if a curve can be projected up at the correct plane it can be used for tool axis control to side mill walls. Is that correct?
  9. Are those used only for surface type ops with a ball mill or can you also use those for side milling. I guess I am trying to understand what it possible?
  10. I did take the McamUnv multi axis but it focused mostly on 5ax curves. Other than that, I am self teaching 5ax. So far I have used Swarf and Curves exclusively. I do mostly aerospace parts with angled walls with steps. We have Table/Table and Head/Head mills. What 5ax path to you use most and why, Please. Thanks, Steve Austin
  11. One of our programmers is having great trouble with 2017. He runs a HP workstation with a Xeon and quadro. Verify is very slow, Mcam freezes. 2017 was reinstalled and now the Catia translator is not working. Tomorrow I will get all the specs and comeback. Anyone seen these problems. He says this all started with upgrading from X9 to 2017. He has called Mcam, our IT guy has had a try. No help. I work a different shift and now I am going to see what I can come up with. I am somewhat computer literate. I have built pc's from components and done many software installs and such. As a benchmark I run several instances of Mcam and a Solid on a 4 year old Thinkpad mobile station with no problems. I think he is having a software problem; maybe something other than Mcam but still vital to it. Thanks, Steve A
  12. What type of tool path did you use? Are your planes set to top/top or top/with indexing tool planes? We need more info.
  13. I am NOT complaining about the post. We had some issues like TCP turned on by default, max inverse feed settings set too high, and some others that we got worked out. I read through the docs and it did provide some info about the misc/reals but a little more would have saved our us some confusion. You must understand our situation. Two of us run MC and the other four run Catia. Several in management are trying to show the owner the superiority of MC over Catia on the CAM side. This is the first 5x post we have bought as we only ran the Haas on MC previously. Maybe it is my fault, as I am the only one trying to learn the posting process. Before our Postablitly purchase my 5x experience was limited to the Haas and Fanuc generic posts. However, after getting the bugs worked out the ongoing job that was reprogrammed on MC was reduced from 6 hrs to 2 hrs. I was told another seat of MC and possibly a different post will be purchased soon
  14. I think they would be ground with the same repeatably as a ball mill right? I would think the "ball" on ball mills are cnc ground instead of on a rotating axis like old school bm grinders.
  15. So I got this working with Multi surface using a custom taper mill. I added the same side tilt as the tools taper angle. Worked slick. Of course is only cleaned up correctly on mostly flat or slightly curved surfaces. On sharp outside or inside curves it left a step or gouge on each depth pass. Can't wait to try it on a real part now!
  16. I tried this with multi-surface using a 90 degree chamfer mill. I set side tilt to 45 degree. But this offset my chamfer mill away from the part. Anyone know why that might happen?
  17. We ran into axes inverted with postability's okuma 5x post. We turned off tcp in the post which is for head head machines and that corrected the problem. I was disappointed with documentation that came with that post.
  18. I use spring passes on anything +- .002. I also make spring passes the same way and also dislike leadin and out there. How to double the chain length.
  19. So I guess you would do some 5ax surface with say 10 degree tool axis angle for a 10degree pencil cutter? And add a large step down? I really want to know!
  20. I saw this vid on Hypermills "tangent plane machining". Very nice. I would like to try it. Anyone ever try these toolpaths with MC? https://youtu.be/BMvCd87jfAw
  21. I thread milled hardened 15-5 stainless 3/8 2" deep couple weeks ago with carmex. Had to back grind the shank to get it down the hole. We almost never tap in machines anymore. Carmex makes it so easy with there code app.
  22. Are you familiar with Opti Rough and Opti Rest? It will give you dynamic toolpaths with step downs. ORough with .750, then Orest with smaller end mills. The rest cleans up what the rough could not reach. If you know this I apologize.
  23. At first I read somewhere that the primary axis is connected to the machine and secondary is connected to primary. Like a Okuma millac head head, B would be primary and C secondary. Or a common Haas trunnion add on for a 3 axis, the A would be the primary and B would be secondary. But then I watched a video on about 5axis generic post and at about 25 seconds in it show a description that has confused me. Does anyone have a simple way to describe this to me. I very much want to understand this. For the record I don't program full time, only when something special is needed. However, I am trying to give management a reason to elevate a young machinist to a full time programmer, which would be unusual for our shop. I feel I am almost there. In fact, I am the only guy in the shop that is trying to learn post editing or really anything new. Thanks to you guys at emaster I was able to sort out some post problems one of our guys was having last week. Thank you Steve A
