  1. Mask on arc is used for drill and circle paths only. Try window chain instead.
  2. Yes having the ribbon bar visible is a must. The ribbon bar works like your prompt area in V9.
  3. Choose create line parallel select the line then click your mouse on the side you want. on the tool bar line just above the graphics you can input the offset amount. Also next to that you will see a blue and red arrows that will let toggle between sides, you can do this while the entity is still live. FYI You do not need to pick create line parallel then select side and distance or select point or Arc like you do in V9. All three choices are done in one command in X.
  4. There is a transition guide that comes with X. It will take you step by step converting all your libraries over. If I'm not mistaken it even has a check off list. Anything can happen though so BACK UP YOUR FILES FIRST. In reality it should go pretty smooth.
  5. Also when you save as a parasolid select options to the right then pick what version.
  6. quote: Here is my theory, X is finished and has been for some time. It is locked safely away under lock and key at CNC headquarters. CNC figures that they have such a large market share that they wanted to level the playing field with the other CAM guys. Additionally they want to test the loyalty of the user in order to see who is worthy of using the new interface and enhancements. For the users that are worthy they may expect extreme productivity and profitability I doubt it I don't think that they are that smart.
  7. Go to the job setup turn off operation comments to nci.
  8. Then set it to inward or both whatever you need
  9. You will be able to bring in the whole dir if you want, no need for any special utilities. Thats all I'm saying about X other than the fact that all you guy's and gal's are going to love it.
  10. shell the solid outward. Make sure you pick the whole solid and not a face.
  11. The best thing you can do is learn everything you can in the Machine Shop regardless of pay. If you do that you will be one hell of a engineer and the money will come later. Personaly I wish all engineers would do what you are doing, It sure would create smarter manufacturing out there. Good luck to you My friend.
  12. quote: What do I tell the 'boss' who asks what the average learning time quote: This would be for a skilled machinist with some computer skills.. no cad/cam however.. Just curious why are you asking this now when you have been a member for over four years. Just reading all the post these fine people have written over the last four years should make you pretty proficient already.
  13. quote: Hey Cad when i have that window open for change at point if i click on the first point going into the corner it changes the feed for the whole line leading to the corner and if a click on the point after the radius it changes the feed for the whole line coming off Break the line by some length so you can change at that point then break the other line past the radius at length and change at point. Awesome tool because you can change feed and speed at each given point.
  14. Crank the feed rates up and it should cut the whole length without breaking. Yes it will cut longer because of more feed motion but at faster rates it will all even out. This tool path will keep the tool from being burried into the matl. The way you are cutting it now keeps the tool burried into the matl the whole time that is why the tool is breaking. Also another thought you might want to stick a lathe bit in or somthing simular the same thickness or smaller as the slot and broach it. Not sure what kind of matl your cutting but I have done this too.
  15. Use pocket and turn on High speed cutting method, with "troicoidial cuts" I know the spelling is wrong but you should find it. Adjust the loop cuts and that tool will never be buried into the matl. You should be able to fly through that slot at a faster feed rate with the spindle speed max.
  16. You only need three and one or more of them can be design only.
  17. All tool paths have a way to lead in and lead out. In the surfaces tool paths you can use direction for this including flowline. Also if you insist on using flowline maybe try sprial for your tool motion. Surface Contour maybe a better option with using the different transitions and lead in lead out. just some option you can consider without me seeing your actual part. Hope this helps.
  18. It would take Four seats of Surfcam for what one seat of Mastercam can do.
  19. That is strange, is it physical geometry can you analyze it? If you can send it up to the ftp site maybe we can try and duplicate it.
  20. Check and see if you have create geometry on in your backplot options.
  21. Keep in mind any output you do get from the demo CD gets rounded to one dec. point. I would go with Autoview.
  22. Even better, In your chaining options set "Allow Surface edges in single mode" That way you don't need to create the edge curves, providing that you are only using a single surface edge and not multiple surface edges. It's a pretty cool feature it allows you to eliminate one extra step. -Rob
  23. I'm here in Ontario teaching as well. If I had access to the fax machine I would send you some prints. I'm using Henri's computer so I don't have access to my pdf files either. I quess when it comes down to it "I'm not much help to you". Anyway things are going okay. I will see what I can figure out. Maybe I can get you somthing. -Peace
