  1. Maybe... I am into another 500+ operation file, I can only imagine the havoc that could be wrecked in a file as such, with all the rotations, ops and tranforms and stock models...
  2. Oh this thread was destined to off the rails after the initial thread....those odds only increased exponentially with the replies
  3. Oh lord no... nope, push and pull toolpath graphically on the screen via the backplot lines
  4. Yup, I only counted working hours based on a 5 day week, 40/hr week....nevermind all of the OT, contract, helping a buddy out, figuring out stuff at home after work on your own..... At this point it is probably more than can ever be accurately calculated but 35k/hrs is definitely conservative.
  5. YiKES!!! I just did some quick math....north of 35,000 hours as well, just with Mastercam..... I'd ask where the hell time has gone but looking at those numbers, it's rather evident where it's all gone.
  6. Have this post processor ever been proven out before? As there's no z2g file I can only surmise this is a default HAAS post that may not be properly setup for your particular machine. That post can be used for several different trunion layouts. So it will need to be properly set up.. Also, I would not use solid geometry to drive 5 axis toolpaths....others might be fine, I have just seen too many oddities in doing so.
  7. My work process is this... As our EOS M400-4 wants mm parts into the software.....I scale the inch part to metric XFORM >> Scale(.03937), I position the part where I want it. I select the part Save Some >> Save as .stl I then open the stl into RPMagics and do all the prep work, move into EOSPrint software, the printing laser layout... I am printing titanium and not plastic, so it is probably more set up work than if you're printing a plastic part.
  8. Here's the problem...you are trying to replicate a job....do you have the CAM file in front of you? If not, you have no idea how the toolpath was created and what voodoo might have been used to get what the programmer wanted. As such just trying to replicate something you don't know how it was built, it is tricky task as it may not be a straightforward as it may seem on the surface.
  9. Spot on! Many times there is no "Easy" button, especially when you are looking for a specific type of motion output. A good programmer can get any and everything out of the software if he/she is willing to work a little. In my pool, my guys have got to know how to swim in the deep end. Most days they are going to get challenged and if they don't know how to achieve something, I teach them how to get it done. That's what us "old guys" do to pass along the knowledge. and to the OP... You could also offset multiple contours on each side based on the step over you want and without using multi-passes, chain all of them based on the outside to inside cutting you want.
  10. If you look inside the post at all the header info, it should list in there if it is even available with the post you have.... My guess is you probably don't have it with that post.
  11. @GoetzInd thanks again for talking with me last week. We did purchase Vericut simulation & Force Optimization.
  12. You can pick & choose which tools to apply it to...and yes, it can do drilling.
  13. What do you want to call them? I believe we ALL know what I am referring to...
  14. and their "minimum" requirements are a joke for anything much beyond flat 2D wireframe work. As you and I both know, the years are littered with people whose IT departments bought on those "minimum" requirements only to find out it was far too weak to do what they needed. I've never understood the "cheap out buyer" when a CAM station should be considered on par with an engineering workstation level computer. With heavy math computations and graphical viewing, that is exactly what they are at its core.
  15. I've not used an ATi card for 8 years. That said, in my experience they worked, sure but that always had shortcomings. Has it changed? Don't know...I'd be leery if I got a new system with one...
  16. If you're looking to track Rev control...it's not going to do it... All it will do is alert you if a file of the exact same name has been updated since you last opened the Mastercam file...that's it....same name, same location, beyond that, you really need a 3rd party product.
  17. eek! Retired my 4000 years ago...I'd say 3-4 years ago There are days I stress the hell out of my current RTX-4000
  18. and the Geforce answer bites yet another user
  19. Thanks to all, I am really honed in on the Vericut product at this point.
  20. It wasn't actually removing the file, it was dropping it out of the Tracking option...
  21. How would a software that only stores your files, suddenly upgrade a file? Based on that theory, you should never update your Windows program...
  22. Solidworks PDM works can be used that way for CAM files.....and other types as well...Once checked in anytime someone opens it to change it, it has to again go through the check-in process, which includes bumping it's internal Rev level...that is customizable...There is on-going discussion on how we can better control our files as dating with the current date has come with its own set of issues. I am in the process of creating a process for PDMWorks and our 3D printing files, where they will reside in PDMWorks and be subject to version control.
  23. No. it is a component of Solidworks, though it "may" be able to be purchased separately, not sure on it though. There isn't anything that integrates with Mastercam in that way. It would be 3rd party software
