  1. Use a diamond cutoff wheel to score the shank. Then clamp the carbide in a vise and hammer it off with one swing. This may not work as well with larger dia. endmills. After you snap off the shank, you should face and chamfer the end with a diamond wheel or Deckel grinder.
  2. It did this in the beta version and it still does it in SP2. I was in a "gotomeeting" with CNC during the beta phase and showed them this issue. For some reason it is still not fixed along with other bugs.
  3. Daniel, does the file size grow when you create the cl-file and what exactly is a cl-file? I no longer use pro/e for toolpathing. I just remember having to make a cl-file before posting. In Mastercam, I just select my toolpaths and post.
  4. Hockey guy, one thing I have noticed with cam software other than MCAM is that they do NOT incorporate the NCI file within the main part file. Pro/e is separate, the old CADDS5 by Computervision was separate and I thought Powermill was also separate. I think they called the files a CL-file, rather than an NCI file. Those systems directed all parts to their own part folder with all the neccesary files to manage and toolpath your part. With Mastercam, everything is included in the one part file. Maybe someone with more knowledge can chime in on this since I may be wrong. I have also never used Surfcam, so I can't really determine if their file/folder format is similar.

  6. Mickey, do you have you have your tool containment set to "within" or "center"? Why don't you have any blocking surfaces created? You didn't provide us with any useful information to help you.
  7. I have seen that several times and couldn't find a way to prevent it. I used the Waterline path instead in those cases.
  8. Tyler, the only time I have seen the new toolmanager NOT SAVE a new tool is when you take too long to create the tool. You must have all your data in front of you on paper. Open the new tool manager and enter your data as fast as you can. Do NOT fart around. You may only have a couple minutes to enter all that data. If it takes you longer to enter that data, the tool manager will NOT save the tool or may crash.

    Corrupt Tools

Not good! I'm glad I'm not seeing those issues.
  10. I do as kd suggested and use horizontal to hit all the depths. When I'm using waterline, I'll use several toolpaths to hit every critcal depth by checking "Use Z depths" on the Steep/Shallow page.

    Corrupt Tools

Just wondering if most of you updated your tool libraries using the "Update folder" utility? I have NOT used that utility and have not had any issues with the tools many of you are speaking of. I updated my tool libraries in this fashion: - Open your tool manager within X7 - In the lower section, open a previous version tool library eg: johnford.tools-6 - Select all those tools (Click on the top tool, hold the shift key and select the bottom tool. - Move all those tools to the top section of the tool manager by hitting the "arrow up" button on the far right. (Hold the enter key down instead of clicking "yes" for every similar tool -In between the upper and lower sections, hit the "create a new tool library" button and give your new library a new filename and hit save. (be sure to save your new tool library in the proper folder you desire) - Select all the tools in the upper section and hit the "arrow down" button on the far right side -Hit the green check on the lower right corner and select "yes" to save your changes Try using your newly created library and see if this works for you. I'm not certain that is the answer, but like I said, I haven't experienced any of these problems using this method. I eventually changed all my tools that shared the shank and cut diameters to different lengths. Eg: flute = .590", shoulder = .595", overall = 1.968". That will take some time, but I was not busy at the moment and managed to get all my tool libraries defined properly.
  12. Excellent! I noticed 90° vertical surfaces sometimes blank out or have a waterfall effect using verify, changing the engine to 5-axis will fix that issue too.
  13. Rotary, did you find a solution to the verify/stock model issue?
  14. After looking at your settings I noticed you are indeed using Hybrid. Turn off the horizontal arc on your leads page. Horizontal arcs have almost ALWAYS gouged on my parts using Hybrid. I have not had issues with the other HST's. I have not used Hybrid on X7, therefore I don't know if that issue was fixed or not, but I have abandoned that toolpath in X6. Another tip: On your cut parameters page, change the "Keep tool down within" setting to a much smaller value. I prefer using the distance box rather than the tool percentage. I also noticed you are finishing with a .005" tolerance. THATS WAY TOO MUCH. I finish path with a tolerance between .0002"-.0004"
  15. I have been using the HST's since their invention. I have only had gouges using the Hybrid toolpath. I did have better luck with surfaces in Versions 8, 9 and the first release of X, but since X2, I have been programming off of solids. If your buddy's reseller truly gave that advice, he should be shot and dumped in a ditch.
  16. Ninja, go to file-options and check the 5-axis engine. It just might display the holes.
  17. The tool manager crashes frequently. It even crashed during the webinar.
  18. Well I'll be damned! I swear those settings worked for a couple days and now they are not sticking for me either.
  19. I'm almost certain CNC will add a config page just for the verify settings. I assume they wanted to launch X7 and that option just didn't make the cut. I was hoping X7 would have been delayed a little longer since I really didn't think it was ready for primetime. Although, the regen speed of the stock model makes the X7 upgrade well suited for my purposes and has saved me a lot of time.
  20. That is correct CamMan, you must start a new part for it to work.
  21. Here ya go! MastercamSimulatorDefaults.xml
  22. Holy smokes CamMan! You nailed it! I changed the xml file to 0.000 on all settings and it worked!
  23. As far as I'm concerned it is broken or I'm not doing something correct. Please see the following pics. The first pic displays the .xml file regarding the compare/color tolerances. The 2nd pic displays the settings only worked for ONE tolerance setting (.0015" tolerance/green). I sent this to QC and they responded saying they didn't see the issue. Grrr!!!!! I sent them another email describing the issue in further detail and I haven't heard from them yet.
