Test File For PC 'Puting

What does this test really prove? Hard drive or RAM capabilities? What part does the video card play in the processing time? Do the allocation setting come in to play with this? Just asking, because my computer is running really slow. I ran almost three minutes on this test. I know my computer is out of date...800MHz 512MB Nvidia Gforce...but I would still like to get the best performance out of it till I get a new one.

Well if you compare your numbers with a comparable system, you should have roughly the same crunch times.

Video plays a part in processing time because time to display does play a part in completion time. If you have "Display Surface Plane Intersections" active (default setting) then video will play an even greater role in how fast it crunches.

I have a PIII-800 at home. I'll run the test on it and post the results...

I think this test is misleading as it doesn't really work the PC like a smaller stepover and Tighter tolerances would( I think some of the higher end PCs here would show a much larger gap on a more cpu taxing test). I have noticed the processing times seem to increase exponentially the more Toolpaths in a file and the fact that the second time is allways faster leads me to believe that memory is being tied up each time a Toolpath is generated eventually to the point in which time is spent freeing memory while processing.

Glad to see my 2yr old box is still competetive though.
