I am getting 28 secs and 12 secs.

Running:

AMD 3000+ Barton

512 ram

G3-Ti200 video (128)

2)80 megs SATA drives on Raid 0

 

Being that i have older video card, and low memory, must be the SATA thats giving these good results.

Don’t know and it doesn’t matter since I mostly watch movies.

 

Doom 3 gets released on August 6th up here and I would consider it a fair test for all the systems that I see before me.

This is just not a good test. I simple thing like Norton can be screwing it up. In my shop the machine that was the fastest is not the fastest Mastercam machine.

Before anyone gets tempted to go out and buy SaTa hard drive, keep in mind that motherboard needs to be Serial ATA ready.

 

Another computer test you all can use to compare machines is SANDRA SISOFT, a popular benchmarking program. This will test/stress out the whole system and gives you meaningless values, but great for comparison purposes.

Mike I am getting ready to put together a new machine and was considering the AMD 64 3200 1meg cach (socket 754) which is what I believe that you have. I think that this may be a good way to go because of future upgradability. Does your machine seem to run Verify fast and also run all other normal Windows apps fast? Are you very happy with this CPU?

That's exactly what I have. Very Very Happy with this PC. It has been bullet proof with everything I've done. Bought it because it was just a little faster than the fastest 32 bit AMD (at the same time). Dymnamic rotation and Verify are very fast. http://www.magicmicro.com

My P4 runs pretty good but I just want to put together a new screemer.

Yes I wish I had sprung for the 10K SATA or possible the Nvidia Quadro. Another $150 into this box probably would have cut that time in half.

 

Personally I dont like the WD drives. The Seagates are a lot quieter. Makes a difference when I record my training videos. Less hmmmmmm in the background.

I am going to try to build a very quite computer so if the Raptors are loud I will not be able to use them either. I will look at the Seagates. Do you think they are close to as fast as the Raptors?
