Different button sizes in the Ribbon Bar

Hi all!

I have been using Mastercam for several years, and have now installed Mastercam 2017. Because I want

to have my own custom toolbar, I have now begun to build a custom tab in the Ribbon Bar. But there is

one thing I don't understand. Totally random, some buttons are displayed as large, and some are displayed

as small. Here's an example where I have added 7 commands I use often:

As you can see, one button will be small, and the rest large. This is very annoying, and looks strange.

It becomes impossible to create a smooth custom tab when it behaves like this.

Is there anyone here who know what I'm doing wrong?

Where is the setting that determines the size of the buttons?

As far as I know you can't change the size.

Some idiot decided it looked better to have all your stuff a jumbled mess.

Pure speculation on my part, but probably because Create Line Parallel is a sub-command of Create Line. Just like the other sub-commands (when you click the arrow dropdown) they're all small. Apparently no one gave it any thought as to what should happen when creating custom tabs. Or they saw it and thought it looked good!

You could probably fit 12 icons from V9 in the amount of space that one large icon now takes up. And somehow this is better? smh

I just keep the ribbon bar minimized and put the icons I need in the quick access toolbar

That might be doable, if the icons were a bit larger...like the size of the icons in previous versions of MC.

Also, the path/file name is displayed in the quick access toolbar. The more icons that you add, the farther to the right the file name goes, eventually getting squashed and unreadable. Being in and out of many different files during the course of the day, I reference the file name from there quite frequently.

you can put the QA toolbar below the Ribbon and run it the width of your screen

The file path stays topside

I'm running with the Ribbons minimized

and the Attributes Panel set to stay open all the time

I'm still working on the QA tool bar

It's very easy to add icons to it

right click a ribbon icon and choose add to QA toolbar

The Toolpath and Planes Manager are on my 2nd screem

If I don't need to access prints, the Level manager is to the left on my 3rd screen

When I need my left screen for something else, the Level Manager is docked Left with Autohide enabled

2017 does have alot of cool stuff....it was just designed by aliens.

Hey G how did you get the toolbar on the bottom.

I am going to be driving 2017 by the pull down and that little toolbar at the top.

That way I don't have to use the horrible ribbon bar....

BTW which genius decided to rename tons of functions and create the game "can you find it now" ??

Right click in a blank space up at the top

Then "Show QA Toolbar below the ribbons"

re "can you find it now"

it was the same moving from V9 to X.

I let X sit for a couple of beta's cause I couldn't find anything or get things to work

For me, the breakthrough was discovering that holding down the Shift let you chain stuff

Once I got that, the rest came together pretty quickly

If you haven't already done so, download the Command Finder chook

It works well

The Making the Switch file is useful too

Thats how I found out the easy way to customize the QA Toolbar

(right click a ribbon icon, choose add to QA toolbar)

  • 4 weeks later...

You Were using G-Zero in DOS ???

Anicam 1.0

I don't recall the OS, but it was pre DOS

The machine was an NEC with 2 8" floppy drives, 64k of ram

and a 13" four color monitor

The floppies wore out after a month's use and I had

to retire the system when I could not longer buy 8" floppies.

By then Anicam 2.0 was available

It ran on an IBM XT, with DOS and a mouse

Now thats stepping it up a little . It beats the heck out of incremental programing on a flexowriter  with IBM punch cards that the code gets punched out to so then you can make paper tape and run it then when you have what you want and make a master mylar tape and your good to go. Sometimes.  I had a xt IBM with 4 megs of ram that was loaded into bubble mem on the sys board and then you could run auto cad and hop it did not crash cuz if it locked up you could not save it to a floppy i think they were 5.5's but could have been 8's. any way was rinse repeat until you got good geo . and all in dos // commands .

well we shall be back for more fun tomorrow.

Have A Good afternoon G
