I found this completely by accident

Open an MC2017 file

from Windows Explorer, drag and drop another MC2017 file into the Toolpath Manger

The Operations Import windows opens... very cool and what a time saver

I never knew about this

Is it new to MC2017 or has this worked in previous versions??

I found it by accident when I went to drop a file in the graphics area and missed}

Doesn't work in X9, dragging an MCX file into anywhere in the program window area just opens the file..

I don't see any real advantage of this over the "old way." Just something different and new.
