  1. I'm looking for opinions on blade expert I've been building open vanes on our big Okumas for years, roughing with hyperMill, finishing with Mastercam's ModuleWorks 5X toolpaths. The flowlines of these vane walls are always straight so I'm able to finish them with endmills. We're quoting actual blisks now., hogouts made from Ø20" 15-5 forgings. They look like quite a challenge,, and I'm thinking we might need to add a seat of Blade Expert to the warchest. Thought and advice from the Blade Expert guys are welcome.
  2. If I had to do this I'd make a new work offset, and drill and ream for a tooling ball in the center of the port at B90 Then I'd install the tooling ball, index to the proper angle and use the tooling ball to set a 3rd work offset You could also have your operator set the part up and tell you where the part is in relation to the B axis COR then program it that way in Mastercam
  3. My Sandvik rep stopped by yesterday and I asked him about this He said they can be repaired.
  4. Xi Computers San Clemente Ca We used to buy Boxx. They were always expensive, but after covid, they got ridiculously expensive. My employer has bought 3 Cad/Cam machines from them and I bought the machine in my siggy from them a few months ago Now they offering are i9's overclocked to 6gig
  5. What kind of monitor are you running I have a Dell34" curved screen and it's native resolution is 3840 x 2160 Mastercam ran OK at that setting but the text was way too small for my ancient eyes I'm running it at 2560x1440 and 100% Scale and it's fine. Also, depending on what version you are running it may not play nice with 4K monitors I found this article in the Mastercam Tech Exchange Article 17631 This article described the issue you are having and how to fix it I tried pasting the article here, but that didn't go well
  6. If someone tightens the locking screw with no tool installed, the holder is ruined. This can also occur if it is tightened on an undersized tool.
  7. Maybe high speed toolpaths should have 2 sets of tolerances. One for the machining motion and a second for linking motion???
  8. Here are a couple of youtube videos on filtering
  9. How old is the machine?? Older Haas controls cannot handle a bunch of point to point code without choking. Mastercam high speed toolpaths are going to output point to point code, especially in transition moves no matter what settings you have on the filter page. Personally I think a .0004 setting on the filter is way too tight for what you are doing. I'd bump it up to .001 or .002 and see if the machine can handle the code better.
  10. are the collisions happening on flat surfaces? do you have micro lift enabled? a file was posted here a couple of months ago with collisions using dynamic mill and a ball endmill what was happening was that the ball endmill was leaving cusps on horizontal surfaces and the endmill was rapiding through the crests of the cusps during backfeed motion enabling microlift with a lift value higher than the cusps, eliminated this issue.
  11. I evaluated gwiz a few years ago I never bought it and never unsubscribed from his email list He sends out his survey to his email list annually.. I've never participated in that either.
  12. A properly edited post will handle calling up the work offset, tool length offset and spindle speed You can also hard code a parking spot so the operator can check and change the inserts conveniently.. On production jobs, I'll use two identical tools with identical gage lengths. Then the operator just changes the tool and hits go
  13. Depending on it's age and origin, your post may need some work to support tool inspection.
  14. make sure the Precision slider is all the way to the right a default install has it in the middle which yields very choppy results
  15. I think the developers at the ivory tower spend more time listening to people teaching newbs Mastercam and much less time listening to the folks who make a living using Mastercam. I can see how having it it all tied together would streamline the teaching environment, but in my case it's just one more thing that I have to develop work arounds for.
  16. They are issuing temp licenses for those who are down. You can read the whole thing on Mastercam.com
  17. Still down ... going on 48 hours now. I'll bet they are getting some UGLY phone calls!
  18. There are good and bad points to both methods. If you forget your hasp at work, you have 2 options, drive back into town and get it or don't work. With a software license, you can VPN into your work machine, deactivate the license and reactivate it on your home machine. You can also lose or damage a HASP. I've never lost mine, but I misplaced it once. After an hour of frantic searching, I found in laying on the garage floor. It had fallen out of my pocket while I was getting out my keys. My wife actually ran over it when she pulled into the garage, It's a little bent, but it still works. I don't carry my hasp in my pocket anymore.
  19. I renewed maintenance in August and was invited to change over to software licensing. I declined. They way I understand it, Mastercam will still run on a PC with an active license, you just can't move it to another machine. and If you deactivated a license at work, planning to reactivate it at home, you won't be able to run Mastercam till the servers are back up.
  20. If you have a software license, do not deactivate it because you won't be able to turn it back on At this time, an ETA for service restoration is unknown. From Masterca.com Mastercam Licensing Server Outage – Updated 10/19/2023 2:20 PM EST October 18, 2023 at 2:14 pm 1 like We are currently experiencing a technical issue with our Mastercam Licensing server and do not have an estimate on when this issue will be addressed. The host of our licensing services experienced a hardware failure in their data center. They are continuing to work on replacing the hardware and getting the systems back online. This issue impacts new Mastercam software license activation/deactivation attempts. All Mastercam licenses activated before this outage will continue to work. Do not deactivate any current licenses until the services are restored. We will continue to update this message as we have additional information to share. Thank you for your understanding.
