  1. Hi Ernie, You could turn the machine over to MM from inches and that might help tighten up things since it would resolve a little closer or is that not possible with your machine? Jim
  2. Keith, Your welcome sir. This is the perfect example of the nice side of this Forum. Have a nice day. Jim
  3. Hi, No it stays down at the end of the 1st pass and drops down in Z and cuts back to the original start point where it drops down in Z again and then cuts its last pass. The posted code I'm looking at never lifts and doesn't go back to the start point. Jim
  4. Hi Keith, In using 8.1.1 Face operation I used all absolute values for parameters and high speed loops between cuts. Zigzag cutting method with 50% stepover and Depth Cuts checked on. In depth cuts I used .005 finish pass and checked on Keep Tool Down box. Posted with MPMaster and looked good. HTH Jim
  5. Chris, Why are you offended? It's my way of running the machine, not yours. I don't let anybody run my set-ups. They (the boys) only load parts on machines that are bought-off set-ups from inspection. I don't leave the interlocks disabled after prove-out and I'm talking about big parts on big machines in a cell with robots loading the pallets automatically into the machine. Sorry you're offended you shouldn't take it personally,I'm just saying that everybody does things differently so take it with a grain of salt. Jim BTW: We don't hire burger flippers, they come from NTMA or other shops and must pass pre-employment competency tests and drug screening.
  6. Trevor, Have to agree with you on this one. I've climbed in the machine with feed hold on and checked things and climbed back out for years. Even had the door interlock disabled so I could prove-out without 1000 alarms per hour. But that's not everyone else, so if people don't have common sense (uncommon virtue, don't know why they call it that) they will get hurt. But the hostility in here makes you feel like they think your an idiot. OSHA is a joke if you ask me. 20+ yrs. in the trade and never even seen an inspection or review or whatever they call it. Enough of my .02 Jim
  7. most of dissolvers eat the iron only thats why it doesn't eat the parts
  8. Machinemasterg Excellent idea !!! Just love to hear new ideas. Made me think of using old 1/2" em for this. Learn somethin new everyday ! jim
  9. Hi, Just a thought,ok? Bear with me if you haven't heard this before. If you have an old 3/8" Carbide Endmill not chipped or an old carbide regrind go to location X0Y0. Now bring your old cutter down and set Z. Now turn spindle on at or about 5000 RPM and go into handle/hand wheel mode. Now this is the fun part, set handle to Z and .0001 increments and start cutting down very easy. As you do this start blowing with your air gun right on the hole and go down .100 and then back out and check. Keep going until your thru or you can dig out the remainder. Remember this is emergency only method not Standard Practice. HTH Jim
  10. Hi all, Do you people feel there is a legitimate gripe about post files when you can get the Post CD and edit posts yourself? I feel that posts should come with MC since you can't use the software without them. I know we're not supposed to bring up $$$ but since this thread pertains directly to that, here goes. My company has 17,yes that's 17 seats of MC, now that's well over $200,000.00 and yet they still want $3000.00 for a post. Is that right or greedy ??? Jim
  11. Hi Chris, Just get a demo of MC and show em how it's done !!! Congratulations and Good Luck Jim
  12. Hi all, Not very good taste coming to our forum and not even asking or talking about MC. Just jump right into his cmm stuff. Hard to say welcome to the forum when he is just trying to get hits on his site. JM2C Jim
  13. Hi Guy, Yes I save NCI files for very complex parts such as surface cuts, but for little stuff I don't. You can get huge hard drives now so it doesn't matter about that. But it does take longer to save. You can also set up MC to restore entire NCI on file get but that takes longer too. HTH Jim
  14. mold100, Big Thumbs Up !!! God has blessed you with the best gift!!! Hope everybody is healthy and happy !!! Congratulations, Jim
  15. Hello all, When is V9.1 due out? TIA Jim
  16. Hi Eric, Sorry bout that link. Their site is down. Called them up this morning and got their 800 # so if you want you can call free. Destiny Tools makes some great Tools. Endmills,Dovetails and Specials all work great. Example: 1" 2 Flt. Carbide 2.25 LOC I run at 15000 RPM 600 IPM .25 DOC .50 ADC get about 300 minutes per cutter. Here's their number 1-800-527-TOOL ask for Guy(Owner) or Judy(Sales). HTH jim
  17. Hi Eric, Here's a site you can try. www.destinytool.com (408) 988-8932 HTH Jim [ 09-11-2002, 07:02 PM: Message edited by: iowajim62 ]
  18. Hi Chris, No it won't work for us. We went one step further with our Mazak cells. We went full-auto lights-out machining and we needed accurate cycle times for our daily schedules. So now its only the verticals and you know how hotshot set-up people can get about "their" programs. Luckily our upper management saw thru these peoples little game and put a stop to it. Current cycle times are so critical to our quoting-estimating team that they actually have us whip out test cuts to give them real numbers for run-times. Jim
  19. Hi Herbert, We had the same thing going on about 5-6 yrs ago. We run some wild feeds and speeds on big alum hogouts and they would freak out and slow it down. Then we went through training them that it was ok. But my biggest gripe about slowing them down is so the people can get overtime ! That gets my goat because they don't understand that we compete against other shops for work !!! Later Jim
  20. Hi Chris, We use Extreme DNC also and most awesome about this package is the ability to Barcode your program and then save it with your set-up info. You just scan them in after that for repeats. Another nice feature if needed is downloading to a protected location that nobody can mess with. HTH Good Luck Jim
  21. Hi Cadcam, I think you should explain how to zip files. Otherwise that will be next. Regards, Jim
  22. Thad, Wouldn't it be easier to just go into Side view and extend (draw fake geometry) the .25R up .17 more and then go back to Top View and draw some new pocket walls at the top of the extended Radius? I know you don't wanna draw extra geo but it would be done already and you'd be working on something else. As far as limitations go, I say do it anyway you can. My boss doesn't wanna hear excuses like, "The software has limits for this kind of Cut" he just wants it done. Jim
  23. Well,Well,Well Mr.Smartmouth(Jack) I have a couple things to say to you. First off, I've spent 21 yrs. in the trade doing everything thrown at me. Including cutting core and cavity 6 months into the trade back in '81, moving over to aerospace in '85 so I could get on the Bridgeport Series II NC I had seen in '83. Then it was part-time automotive work starting in '88 after my regular day job on Cinci 5-axis cutting B-1 parts. Next it was time to move onto Semiconductor work in Silicon Valley because the pay was to good to pass up. Now that I've made my position clear, I would like to let you know that YOU are the worst person I have ever heard of in this trade. You blow all that crap out your hole as if your God's gift to machining. What a lame _uck you are! The best people in this trade and in the world are the ones who are Humble !!! (James,Jay you have my utmost respect,Thank you for everything you guys do in here.) I too have a healthy ego, just ask me I'll tell ya. It's to bad that you're so stuck on yourself. People that find out your a machinist instantly have a bad opinion of the rest us machinists in the world. I'll stop blowing up on your sorry _ss now. But remember "What goes around, comes around". Oh one other thing,Get your story straight so much crap flew out your hole I can't tell what is truth and what is lies. I hope you grow-up mentally someday, to match your age or is that IQ? Jim
  24. Hi Alan, I too had qualms about V9 but after playing for awhile got to like it. Alot! Posts from 8.1.1 updated no problem and I like the new stuff in V9. Waited until Sp1 to do full blown program, but no problems even then. All in all, I say go for it you'll love it! HTH Jim MC V9Sp1/LVL3-Solids
  25. Hi, I found that if you want to save views other than System Views you need to click on GVIEW,click on ENTITY and pick 2 lines in what will be your new view. After that you click Next or Save and do what you need for your X&Y&Z origins. Then you hit Save and MC will move to that New View. Now that you have your view set go to GVIEW again and select Named Views. When the WCS opens you'll see it has your New View already highlighted. Right click on your new view and a dropdown menu opens. Now click CREATE and click on Copy Selected. Now you're ready to Name your View and set origin if needed. Don't forget to click on Show Details Button down on the lower left in WCS Manager for setting or changing origins. This is my 8.1.1 way of setting my jobs up for V9. Sorry for so long a post, but thought this might help alot of people. HTH Jim
