  1. good day, when you backplot your path go into the options tab and select "save as geometry". hth, trevor
  2. +1 to scotts comment. i have used other software in the past also and have always gotten the job done, there is always more than one way to accomplish any given task.the bottom line is to get it done efficiently and at minimal cost.if this gentelman can come in and cut parts as fast and accuretly in surfcam as the rest do in mc. then you need to ask yourself if it makes sence to get a seat of surfcam.for this one particular fella.i sure hope he can live up to the reputation or youll be stuck with a seat of surfcam that noone uses. good luck , trevor
  3. why not just simply say if you want the job mastercam is the software he will use .if he wants to use surf cam so bad why is he appling for a mastercam job? trevor
  4. sorry bertau, hijack; quote: __________________________________________________My company eliminated all CNC operations two weeks ago __________________________________________________ sounds to me they will be eliminating all positions shortly with that philosiphy. what goes thru peeps heads with that logic good luck in your search bernie, trevor
  5. continue hijack.... morning corey, all is well back home. hudson is quite a handfull at 18 months ,he has now found a wak to climb completly onto the kitchen table . let me tell you he is real proud of it too, once he gets there its all smiles and clapping.we are working on #2 but well have to see what happens, would like to have a girl to complete the package. so just how big is luke these days? is he a chip of the ole block? take care , trevor
  6. time for my 2 cents. i tend to agree with corey on this ,and yes we together have used that annalagy alot in the past . but i also try to take into account the machines i run have tremendous accel and decel and look ahead. i do not cut squares and circles, i machine complex 3-d work. i could program max rpm's and say 600 ipm feed rates to obtain a specified sfm for a given tool. the dilema is my machines can not generate that velocity in a short move so if i watch my feeds on the control they will hardly ever reach the feed i program.so i tend to be conservative all the way around so as to not rub the xxxx out of my tooling. as for the machines being designed to run at max rpm, i would say this if you had a 20000 spindle it could probly still run at 22000 if you tweeked the parameters but when the waranty is up your screwed .i say run it between 80-90% all day long and it will be producing long after the one that ran non stop at100%. this is just my opinion.........puting on the asbestas suit trevor
  7. hello, at work here we have a couple axis 2000 cameras set up to monitor the edm's and mills they are one a wireless so i can move them fromm machine to machine. they take stills every minute and live feed if you have high speed at home.they work great for us.as far as some one being able to see the cameras over the internet who cares(they need the address anyhow),all they will see is my machines running or burning a given part,i do not hang a sign on it saying who the customer is a nd a list of contacts at any given company. paranoia is a vicious thing dont let it get the better of you. trevor
  8. congrats, nothing better than a little one around the house. trevor
  9. bump...... the way i see it we allready have the option to hide it if we choose to only be emailed thru the board.it is the risk we all take one way or the other , thanks for asking thou, trevor
  10. quote: __________________________________________________ all programming should only take 10 minutes per President of the company. __________________________________________________ lol, jcasle, if you meen you were let go because of your programming your probably better off to find a more modern enviroment.imo 2-d is not going to get you ahead in this world.probly 95% of what i do is 3-d.but every thing that is designed here is in 3-d software so other than a few mods in mastercam all design is done for me. as for your bosses statement, hell i can spend that much time just sorting out a file to see if im making a widget or a gadget. best of luck to you , trevor
  11. just another thought on this topic,if you get this message it would mean a good thing to me (not error). this will also come up if you run a surf contour then a shallow and regen both ops at the same time.if you see no left over found it means that all surfaces have been machined 100%,if you dont see this message it means you will have a scallop where your contour and shallow paths do not over lap. i.e. if you set the remove cuts tab in contour op to say 30 degrees and your shallow op only goes to 20 degrees they will not cut it all but by setting the shallow path to 40 degrees all will cut. sorry so long a post, hth, trevor
  12. wow you dug up an old one thad quote: __________________________________________________ But as we all know, you ain't $hit unless you were born in 1970. __________________________________________________ +1 to that trevor
  13. good day , erie is not exactly close ,but i may be able to give some tips .i have ran the 32,22, 12 and 13 models the 22 and 32 had twin spindles .the post i have is from v7 but could be updated. im running makino mills now but i sure do miss the bosto. like reked said once it clicks youll love it. always remember set point is an awsome feature ,dont be affraid to use it all the time.will save on multiple set ups on one fixture.(i.e. errowa or 3-r fixture) email me if you got any ? trevor
  14. good day, the way i have been told is the only diff between the 2 is a visual to see in your op manager.it is there so if you set up your op defaults you could always have the rough contour leave say .01 and a step down of say .02. therefore there would be no need to alter all your parameters. hth,if i have been mis informed some one let me know. cnc you out there? trevor
  15. quote: __________________________________________________ trev and trevor? __________________________________________________ im here ,been real bsudy latley and have not been around the board much, didnt trevor baily move back west again? trevor
  16. i for one have always used 200 rpm. dont ask me why ,it just works ......for me anyhow trevor
  17. i agree with robk, just stop the spindle swithch machine to mdi mode turn coolant off then back on after indexing, swithch back to run mode and wahlah.on the fanuc controls i have i have actully wrote down x,y,z locations put machine in handle mode moved it around ,dialed back to my location and started where i left off. trevor edit: just dont hit reset
  18. imo the e-stop is for when the machine is on fire.i have ran many diffrent machine makes and never e stoped them always power of then breaker. maybe its wrong but it always works.to me if i want to simply turn of the machine this does not constitute a emergency. trevor
  19. another way to go about it would be simple 2-d cutting. both pocket and contour have a toggle swithch for adding taper to the walls automaticly.the fact of using a flat end mill to get a good finish just means take .0005 or so step downs.and wahlah nice finish. hth, trevor

corey, yes right now im cutting 16in x 18in trodes i had to move some pallets around to get the monster to fit without taking out the laser. the speed and feeds are good for me.its just that i see so many companys buy a 6 or 7 thousand rpm machine when for a couple grand more they could get a 10 or 12rpm spindle.(still slow in my opinion , but better than 6,000) trevor

v-buzz, one thing to consider when buying a machine also is not necesarilly what your cutting today but what are you going to cut tommorow or the next day.example : if your bigest part right now is say 12x20 dont buy a 16x24 machine what if that job fails to continue and you need to find another customer.same with spindle speeds ,more is always better .it may cost more up front but will pay off greatly. sorry for so long hope you get my point, best of luck in your search, trevor
  22. jay, you sir are correct i just went back and looked at jammans home page and it took me there also. pretty impressive sight.lots of work id imagine. trevor
  23. jay, heres the link: the cat dragged in -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- edit: http://thecatdraggedinn.com/index.php did not seem to connect directly the first time, try this sorry , trevor
  24. hello i just checked out the link to the cat dragged inn. do you have anything to do with the board or did you just stummble on it? i figured since it was just opened id reg and see what becomes of it. quite a few areas to post. trevor
