Afternoon everyone, morning to you west coast folks.
I got a question which I hope someone can answer.
I'm milling tubes (.625 dia - 1.125 dia)in a Haas 5c indexing head. I'm milling a contour on the end (4th axis) so it will fit up against over tubes and a fitting for a frame we do.
That's not a problem. In the spirit of "Lean" and saving operation I would like to deburr the end of the part on the machine (Haas tm-1).
What I would like to do is bring the 2.00 dia.brush down to the side of the part and have the part rotate around with the brush staying stationary and still follow the geometry of the contour. I can't quite figure it out.
What I do now is I take my contouring operation redo it to a 2.00 dia tool , post it and then take out all the "y" moves. This is a huge pain.
I got alot of these to do.
I was wondering if anyone knows of a way to get it to come down and follow the geometry but only move in the "x".
Any suggestions are welcome.
Joey
Morning everyone
I was just wondering what programming language mastercam uses to write the post processors with. Our IS guy was wondering and I didn't know for sure.
Thanks

Maybe something was wrong with the original solid. I've gotten that no matching opfile before. I had to go back into the solids manager and regen my solid and everything was fine.

Morning everyone
Can you join or combine surfaces to make one surface. Right now I got four different surfaces on the top of my part and I would like to make it one surface.
using v9
Thanks for any suggestions

I started teaching a night class for the first time about a month ago. I'm finding it quite enjoyable. I was a little nervous at first but I'm pretty comfortable now. It's a real comfortable atmosphere in the classroom. I'm really amazed on how well they are doing.
As for the money, it's almost 2.5x my regular pay at the day job. Ididn't do it for the money though. I'm doing it to help out my old professor and for the experience.
All I can say is have fun with it, I am.

Afternoon everyone
We just got a Thermwood Model M67-55DT machine in last week. The company sent a guy out to train on programming it and they didn't use Mastercam at all. They taught him to do it longhand. When we got the machine it came with a post to use with Mastercam.
I got some questions programming a thermwood 5th axis router.
1) Do we need to get a seat of Mastercam Router or can we use our regular mill level 3 ver 9 software ?
2) Is it any different than programming a 5th axis trunnion style machine?
3) Can we take the same approach to programming the toolpaths by using what's in Mastercam -Multiaxis-menu ?
Seems to me that the post would calculate all the pivot points and post out the moves in relationship to G55.
Then we just tell where G55 is and away we go.
I don't know for sure, I didn't go for the training another guy went out. I'm hoping that some of the thermwood gurus on the forum could help out.
Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Afternoon all,
I have a question about the comp3d.dll c-hook.
Could someone explain to me what it does. I'd like to use it on some 5th axis toolpaths but not quite sure what it does or how to use it .
Any info would be great.
Thanks

quick question
I was editting some of my drafting dims. when all of the sudden most of the numbers and letters turned in to hieroglyphics. Anyone know how to fix it and get back the original letters?
Thanks

Go intothe tool manager and click >file >report> create report. You'll have a couple of options for the type of report. As far as a picture and a detailed report, I remember that from the training class but have since forgotten it. I'm sure that if you call them they could guide you through it.

Tim,
Like anything, the more you use it the better you will get at it. I'm getting faster at every time I use it. It was taking me quite awhile to get things going. Once you got a library of things, (tools, common fixturing) it's really not that bad. The Mastercam c-hook is a definite benefit. You can use that and then go in and play with the tool manager alittle so you can run your actual posted code. I'm finding easier every time.
If you got any questions you can probably find an answer here or they have their own forum. it's not as active as the this one but it's still helpful. Then again you can call them also, I find them to be quite helpful when I really get stuck.
That's my 2 cents
