  1. I went with the P2000 when I saw the benchmarks from PassMark (https://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html) It was a few points ahead of the M5000 but I don't know if what they test compare to what Mastercam uses.
  2. I just installed a Quadro P2000 and I'm losing the Auto-Highlight in Trim and Fillet. When you say to use the 3D setting for Solidworks are you talking about the Global or Program Settings? I don't see "Solidworks" in the global settings and I did try setting the OpenGL rendering GPU to P2000 for MC 2018 in the Program Settings but it didn't solve the issue.
  3. I asked the same question so I could pull the info for 4th axis work a while back. I was informed that CNC added "MIN-Z-TPLANE & MAX-Z-TPLANE" to 2018 but it doesn't work unless the WCS is also set to the same plane. Its logged as defect D-29801
  4. Does anyone have any experience with Sankyo Rotary Tables? I received a quote on their RCC250 table and another salesman questioned their quality because the price was ridiculous low (about 1/2 the price of his Koma)
  5. I used SQLite and opened "DatabaseCatalog.toolbd" and changed the names for some MFG's we don't use. There was ID and Description fields that I left alone when editing. We haven't had any problems since doing it over a year ago.
  6. We have been using Visual since 98' and its very powerful and easy to use on the manufacturing side. I don't have experience on the accounting side but they say it works well.
  7. Try disabling NVIDIA Optimus. According to HP its enabled by default to save battery power. I disabled it on my old Dell M6600 because I was having graphics issues in MC and that eliminated the problem.
  8. Can you make the files on the network "Always available offline"? I have all the CAD-CAM directories and files synced locally and force a sync a couple times a day to update the files on the server. With the files local you shouldn't experience any lag.
  9. We have thousands of files that we have to change all the tools when we first open them in X9. The non-cutting geometry from X7 doesn't transfer to X9 and we need that info for verifying. It's not too bad when its a graphite part but on our HSM parts its critical. If I think about it I write the parameters down before changing to the new tool but I usually end up re-opening the X7 file to get the original numbers. Its getting to be a real PITA!
  10. I took a part that has about 1800" feed length and ran Verify (FF to end) on both machines with HWMonitor running Laptop 3000M - Time-4:20, CPU-78%, GPU-3% Homebuilt 970 - Time-2:31, CPU-58%, GPU-4% Rotating part after machined is when I see loading of the GPU. 3000M-99% 970-68% Running Verify in play mode uses more GPU time. 3000M-10% average with 24% max 970 - 20% average with 40% max I'm going to assume that the info from the 5930K CPU is offloaded faster to the 970 and that's why you see the higher percentages.
  11. I chose the 970 over getting a K4200 so I could get a better CPU on a new build. Mastercam and Verify runs fine with it and when I'm Verifying CPUID HWMonitor shows the CPU loaded and the GPU hardly running. It may be the GTX drivers but I'm seeing Verify is more CPU than GPU.
  12. We are hard milling parts on our ROKU and the tangs have a .0003 (.00015 P/S) tolerance. We mill down far enough to measure the width then adjust the cutter and regenerate the program if needed. Our mill guy has done very well with knowing how much to "adjust" for flex and spring on the diameter from the laser measurement. It really isn't that hard when you have a tight accurate machine and cutters. The parts are programmed from solids using surface toolpaths so CC is not an option.
  13. You can grab a tool and hold .0001/.0002? We laser all our tools then the operator puts in the diameter and regenerates the program.
  14. Has anyone noticed if you change a bull diameter it automatically changes the radius to 1/4 of the diameter? We had a 6MM x .5MM bull that the operator changed the diameter by .0004 and the corner radius went from .0197 to .059. It seems no mater what diameter you put in it updates the corner radius to 1/4 the diameter entered. It does it on all our PC's. We have to go back to X7 till a fix is issued...too easy to make a mistake.
  15. They will do that now that verify is 100X faster with X7. In the past when doing 10 or more different trode's in a shift Verify would cut the production down big time. If a tool dia did get entered wrong which hasn't happened that much its just a little time to re-cut the trode. Overall the verify was more costly time wise than the occasional dyslectic entry. The tools only vary .001 or so but If they change to a different tool they had to verify.
  16. I thought the same...I found the issue when working on a new part right after upgrading and notified the operators to verify before running parts. If I wasn't working on something new the operators would scrap parts before noticing the error. We do a lot of repeat jobs that don't need verified and all the operators do is measure the tools, enter the new diameters, and regen the program.
  17. NP Crazy^Millman...I stripped the file so I could upload it to get across what I was trying to do...its 20 MB. Its taking me a bit to wrap my head around this with cutting using a WCS that's not on the rotation axis. I have to go back to the original file with the solid and see if I can get the same results with roughing and surfacing the teeth. SO...I create the toolpaths using the offset WCS that puts the tooth on top, change the WCS to top in all 3 places in the operations, Transform/Rotate the toolpaths using the left side and center of the gear form...
  18. Thanks for the reply CM! I loose the index move for each cut when I change from Tool plane to Coordinate in Transform/Rotate. I get the first A118.0 move from the original operation but nothing else.
  19. I have a part that has a partial gear form that’s off-center from the back end that’s chucked on the indexing head (X+). I can’t figure out how to cut one tooth and transform/rotate for the rest of the teeth. With a gear form that’s on-center I can make a new WCS for the first tooth to rotate it to the top. On the operation I change the WCS to top and leave the tool plane and construction plane to the new WCS. I transform the operations to cut the rest of the teeth using left side for the rotation view. On this part with the gear form off-center I changed the center point on transform/rotate to the center of the gear form and the toolpath looks correct but when its posted the Z depths don’t change. I’ve tried several combinations but I’m not having any luck. Anyone have an idea how to get it to post right? Can Mastercam X7 do this without programing each tooth or holding the part off-center? If it can’t be done I will have to chuck on the off-center ID because we don’t have a 4 jaw and that’s going to take a lot longer to rough the rest of the part. Thanks! Jeff OFF CENTER GEAR.MCX-7

  21. Here’s what I found so far with verify. Benchmark - HP Z400/W3550/2000 Verify time 9:09 Dell M6600/2760QM/3000M Verify time 14:56 - Optimus on (bios) set for max performance, HT off Verify time 8:30 - Optimus off set for max performance, HT on Verify time 8:15 - Optimus off set for max performance, HT off Looks like the Optimus feature needs to be off to give full control to the Quadro. My CPU usage during Verify shows 26% with HT off and 13% with it on but with Optimus on and HT off it was only 13%???
  22. I dont know if it fixed the "rubber banding" I have when placing dimensions or entites yet. I'll know more Monday when I get back into it full bore. The tech should have refered me to another person instead of wasting my time. I told him that I thought it was something in the bios but he ignored me. I also asked if they had instructions to get full power from the Quadro and he ignored that and asked to take control of the PC...it was like he was folowing a script or something. I think I'm going to call Monday and ask for someone that knows what their diong and complain about the time wasted Friday. For $3500 you would think they would make it clear and easy for a customer to get full performance out of the PC!
  23. That helped alot...Thanks gcode! I changed the folowing - Optimus diasbled (bios), OpenGL rendering GPU set to "Quadro 3000M", and Power management mode to "Prefer maximum performance". I will have to compare times with my old workstation to see how much of an improvement I have. I'm pissed that the Dell tech spent an hour messing with my system and he didn't even know what he was doing! :realmad:
