We have 1 Okuma MX55VB vertical, 1 Okuma LB25-2 lathe, and a LCS25 lathe here.

I've programmed OSP2200's, 3000's, 5000's, 5020's, 700's, 7000's, U100's and U10's...

I really like those controls.....Sorry Bucket, but Mick teh loves the OSP's smile.gif

And DavidB, I'm right across the ditch from you smile.gif

I personally dont like the Okuma machines. They are expensive to purchase & repair. I prefer HAAS machines. We have had to repair like items on our Okuma & Haas mills, Okumas cost for a keyboard was @3100.00, the Haas was 350.00

Its a 10 to 1 ratio. If a item should cost 200.00, then you multiply by 10 & thats what Okuma will charge.

Besides the Okuma controls are not that user friendly. The Haas is, as is most Fanuc controls.

I tend to agree with this statement.

On the general functions, they should have taken a few pointers from Fanuc.

The osp 7000 we have doesn't even have a rapid over-ride switch.

You have to single block it and use the feedrate switch, and if you fail to single block it at the right time, don't expect the feed rate switch to slow any rapid move!

Been there done it.

This is a great control for someone just starting out cause they wouldn't know any better......

We have a veritable Okuma showroom:

4 LNC8 Cadet lathes with the 5020L control

4 L370 Captain lathes with the E100L control

2 ES-V3016 VMCs with the U10M control

1 LT15-M Twin / Twin live tool lathe with the U100L control

AND I'm trying to get the funds released to buy 2 more L370 Captains right now

When I first started working here I had never seen an Okuma before and I HATED the controls at first because they are considerably different that Yasnac / Fanuc / Haas structure controls [we have all of those here, too]. Now if I had my choice of lathes [which I pretty much do] I would not buy any other machine tool than an Okuma; the controls are very powerful and easy to understand once you get used to them, the machines are powerful, fast, rigid, and deadly accurate and NEVER have maintenance issues

Okuma ROCKS!!!

I LOVE Okuma!

We have an MX55VB with OSP700M control and it is the fastest processing control that we have.

Although I am only comparing it to the ultra slow Fanuc 0,10 and 11m's but this control processes code pretty dang fast.

Our Cadet lathe with osp5020l control is very easy and quick to program but the keyboard buttons need to be a little softer to allow for faster typing.

And the mid-auto manual function on both machines have saved alot of time for us.

The only real drawbacks are memory and the inability to use subprograms like to fanucs do.

The subs have to be written at the end of the main program.

But if you can write schedule programs, that will help out tremendously.

I run in that days MV50 with osp5000 If I remember well

I loved this machine and the control and never I saw something so simple, mighty and beautiful and I saw a bunch

I LOve OkUMA !

Now I run deckel-maho with Sinumeric 810D and hate it .

I can not compare it .

And my OKUMA was in the dirty shop, even rain drops fall over it and dust from mold shop (alluminium and bronze molding) ,never even one fault and it was an aged machine-15 years .

Now I heard the quality of Okuma dropped down frown.gif

Thaks for all the replys cheers.gif

In our Lathe section we have 2 LB15's and a LC40.

The Fanuc MC posts are Dam close but Im having trouble getting a post for the Okuma LB15's Lathe-Mill.

There are two posts on the MC disc. One supports canned cycles but not Y-axis.The other supports Y-axis but not canned cyles.

So what I do now is post the turning ops with 1 post and the milling ops with the other post and in Cimco copy and paste the Turning ops and Milling ops together to create the NC program needed.

By canned toolpaths I mean Toolpath/ next menu/ canned!

Does any one use Mastercam and Lathe-Milling on an Okuma Machine and get canned cyles and milling with 1 post.

David

No luck. They are doing the same as you in the cimco edit. Sorry i was no help. If you still have this problem by Tuesday give me a yell and i will see a guy from Tafe that would be able to shed some light on this.

I also now run a MB56VA Okuma with OSP-E100M controller. Love the machine. Still dont like IGF. Are you still working in Bayswater

I am working where G.Smith used to work he left here to do Teaching full time.

He has developed all my posts. The work he did on my 5-axis posts was brillant. But we cant get anywhere with the Okuma.

He is working on my LB15 post at present but he said there is about 12 work in it.

He is very busy at the moment with his Schooling so finding the time to work on my post is difficult.

I use to be a student of Graham's myself he is very very good at what he does and a very good teacher I can't speak of him highly enough.

+1

I have been at tafe with him since January. Had the chance to go to the city for the course but my boss had met Graham at a solid edge course and said he would be the man to learn from.

I also can,t speak highly enough of him. I,II tell him to pull his finger out when i see him (im sure he will read this anyway)

Regards
