Mastercam 11

I remember we had MC9, then SP1, followed by MC9.1, SP2, MR0304, MR0904, MR0105. Then came MCX, MCX SP1, MCX MR2, and now MCX2. Like MC9, is MCX2 just another service pack/maintence release, or is it really different? Is it essentially Mastercam 11?

X is ex NOT 10 as many have said. True it is Major Release #10, but it's still not V10. If they wanted to call it 10 they would have called it 10. It is essentially new software. It looks nothing like previous releases (with the exception of the toolpath dialog boxes).

 

X2 is X2, not V11. True it is Major Release #11, but it's still not V11.

 

The Service Packs are mostly bug fixes and Maintenence Releases are Bug Fixes AND Enhancements.

James, the funny thing is, when you posted out in X in the NC code it said V10 now it says V11 in X2.

 

So i'm thinking it is V11.

The offical name is X2, but if you check the file descriptor in the File Open window, X files are labeled 10 and X2 files are labeled 11.

I believe that field in the description is limited to numbers only, thus the 10, and the 11 in them.

It was/is packaged, advertised and sold as X/X2

 

not 10 or 11 or what ever comes next

 

Version #'s are, I believe restricted to numerals.

X2= "Version 11"

X3= "Version 12"

X4= "Version 13"

 

Say what you want about how they have changed the naming conventions, each major release is a new version number. All the rest is just semantics. That is why you get the major version # at the top of the post. When X3 hits the shop floor you will see a "version 12.x.xx.x or something like that at the top of your pst file.

 

If you go into Help - About you will see the version labeled like this:

 

Mastercam X2(11.0.3.25)

 

The numbers indicate the version number and build you are running. When X3 comes out it will be (12.x.x.xx).

You would have to think it is a ten not an EX.

Or is it just coincidence that X was the next release after V9?

 

To stop confusion if they wanted to release a completly new release of Mastercam and not have peolpe think it is V10 why call it "X" ?

X2 does NOT equal 11 in Roman numerals if it was V10 and they wanted to maintain, wouldn't they have called it XI?

It would be better if they just named it something like MasterCam Dog, or Mastercam Sunset, Or perhaps maybe MasterCam Wowza, then we would not get hung up on the name version versus the software version. Okay, I will get back to work now.

The question was brought up long ago in the beta forum whether it would be called X2 or version 11. The response was X2 because it sounded better.

 

X2 is Version 11.

I always thought it was Version X for a couple of reasons that all blended together.

 

1. The Roman numeral 10

2. It just happens to be version 10

3. It seems like the new flashy way to name something (NX, NX2, etc)

When XP comes out MasterCAM releases (Kinda late) X.

What will be the terms used for a Vista platform?
