Useless and dangerous feature

Recommended Posts

Hello ,PPL ~!

I mean break through .

It is dangerous .

Who uses it at all ????

~~~~~~~~~~~~
Break through dialog box
Use the Break through option to cut completely through the material by an amount that you specify. This option is available for contour, pocket, and circle mill toolpaths. Break through causes the tool to cut into the spoil board to ensure a clean cut through the material. Always enter the break through amount as a positive number. Mastercam adds the break through amount to the final depth of the toolpath to ensure through-cutting.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I am turning to the developers from CNC software : -give me an option disable break through with configuration or tpcfg.dll .

Reconsider the need for break through in Mastercam mill at all

I don't use the feature myself. There are many MC options that, when not used properly (or cautiously), can be dangerous. Take the incremental retract, for instance.

What do you find so offensive about this feature?

You can set your DEFAULTS file to not have it checked so it will be turned off. Before you do, make the value 0, so even if it does get accidently checked, nothing will happen.

That`s sounds good in theory .

In reality when many people deals with programs made by 3 different programmers this sounds dangeroud for my .

I want an option to switch it of through tpcfg

or configuration .

If you use it -so it will be .

Just leave me alone without it .

Some other feature that drives me nuts is Mastercam setting the new origin every time

I set new cplane .

IN version 9 I liked it better when it was set anew every time pressed Alt+O .

I prefer every cplane 0,0,0 for every cplane I use .

First of all this is good for debugging .

And has lots of other reasons too .

You can say I do not need it I can set all origins equal .

BUt why on Earth I need to zero every cplane I create in view manager and make double work .

I am a strait man and like to work simple and safe .

Same as a break through I want work simple and safe .

I don`t need this features

I feel the 'break thru' feature is redundant. I don't need a third way on the same page to adjust my Z cutting depth. I don't use the 'Z stock to leave' either. When going into someone else's or an old program the possibility of an error in 4 different places (including geometry) makes it easy to miss something.

The only time I ever use it, is to rough estimate the tip length of a drill...I then turn the feature off, and manually input a # that I like.

Yup, that's the same way and only time I ever use it. I have my defaults set up with it unchecked too.

I used it constantly but keep it turned off in the defaults. I agree that if you have someone programming behind you and they dont use this function it could get everyone in to trouble. I do however find it very convenient some times and dont mind it being there. Ive just trained myself to pay attention to the box while programming to make sure that its not checked when I dont want it.

I brought this up about 2 years ago, and it was reported a bug. Check link below

Two years passed. Cnc still didn't fix the bug .

I don't know how this is considered a bug. I use the same zero for my parts no matter which side I'm cutting on....except when I have to use a construction hole for an angled setup. Now I have to zero off the "new origin." I think it's a nice feature.

Break through was created for the router folks because they were uncomfortable with using the Z stock to leave function IMHO. It is redundant but I do find myself using it in certain situations.

"Red Arrow of Doom"... I actually think that name was given affectionately buy a CNC Employee. biggrin.gif

It's MUCH better than it was in earalier versions. I say keep it.

I say get rid of Router. That's a pretty useless feature. I can do just about everything it does in Mill. Just trying to compete with ArtCAM I guess... rolleyes.gif
