Hello all. Good Morning! I am machining a complicated part (for me!) in 5 Axis machine (which I have not milled before). I need recommendations on what toolpath to use. I am attaching images below. This would be a huge help. Thank you all in advance. We are planning to do this in two steps. First two counter the walls and remove the middle portion. It will go for heat treatment then and after coming from heat treat, machine mill the rest. Until now, I figured to do curve multiaxis to counter the walls and Optirough to do middle portion. But they are not perfect. I need the bottom radius that I am not getting in any. Also, for some reason, optirough stops at little height above the floor. Which is good for now as we need 0.01" high to give in heat treat but for finishing, I need something else. to remove everything and create radius at bottom. Any help here is helpful. Thank you in advance, again!!!! Here is the link to the mastercam file: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1faVKq0Dh2Z1Oyhopj30n75lh1VyA_h8H/view?usp=sharing

Hello Community, I'm new to using software to estimate the milling time of a part specially using Mastercam. I was curious to understand how the total length of milling is calculated. can someone please explain to me how it is calculated in Mastercam considering a tool depth of 8mm for example? thank you all for your help in advance.

How do I show multiple heads in the verify? I have a machine with four heads. I often program with two heads cutting a very large pocket. The other two heads duplicate. I would like to verify the heads raise and lower and see the stock left after the cuts. Is there a way to do this?

Hi everyone I am new to Mastercam. I have gone through basic tutorials but now I need to perform machining simulation for this part that I have attached to this post. Would anyone kindly help me to setup toolpath for this particular part? It has double helix around a shaft. Would be thankful! Nirajan Pokhrel

I've attached the blueprint of the part to be made and my code to machine the 5 slots in the OD. My goal is to have a program that regardless of the tool diameter, programmed radius or # of passes/DOC can be changed with relative ease. I'd like to make #527 passes where each pass is #528/#527 deep (the actual DOC is [#528/#527]/2 because the Y axis is diametrical). I've never used variables to this extent so I'm hoping y'all will look it over and critique my code. In the program I accounted for the key cutter tool radius when I programmed the tool path, so the R value on the offset screen=0. I'm cutting on the minus(-) side of Y0. Thanks in advance! 208.txt DWG.pdf

Looking for some confirmation that my post is correct. Have a DMG MORI NLX2500 Lathe with live tooling. First time I have attempted a program with face milling on the sub spindle and I noticed that for climb milling it is outputting G42 instead of the G41 I expected to see. Spindle is running in reverse as I expected. Is this normal based on how the control calculates cutter comp for the sub spindle? Hopefully somebody has encountered this and can allay my concerns before I run this job.

Hello everyone, I have a PVC part in a live tool lathe with a C-axis. It has a bore contour that I would like to rough with a live ball mill for reasons of chip control. Is it possible and, if so, what process could I use to mill the ID surface while spinning the C-axis and following the X-axis out (+) from the center? I am using X9. TIA Benz c-axis surface milling.mcx-9

Hi Guys, Needing some help Trying to do 3d contouring on a 3 axis machine. I have attached an example file in Mastercam x9 but not sure if it is right? Could someone please give feedback on it https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8NaxduLlxIQb1dsRXNOdlNfcE0/view?usp=sharing

Hi guys, I am needing to 3d mill a 6 degree angle on a 3 axis cnc milling machine. I have never done this before and have been told I am better doing it bottom of the anlge to the top. Not sute how to tackle it. Any advice would be grateful. I have attached an example of what the part is hope it helps.

Hello everyone, it has been some time since last i asked you about help. Now i have different problem to solve - Port milling part to mill: I have pre-drilled a hole: Now to my problem: - how do i tell to mastercam not to go behind a green line A - it starts machining like i want, but then skips in the depth causing many many collisions (don't mind my imaginary long tool) Results: Our school has edu version of X8, so if smn is willing to take a look directly at the toolpaths and my flawed settings, i would appretiate it. Even some pdf sample with "how to" settings would be nice. http://leteckaposta.cz/728409324

Hey, I was curious if anyone knows if we can simulate manual entry on x9? I like the simulation that comes with the program and when my students write code manually I was wondering if I could use mastercam to verify their work. Thanks Robert

So my company has put me in charge of ensuring that our operators have correct training on the proper use of an Edgefinder on a 5 axis Milling machine. I am trying not to type one up, and was wondering if there was a good guide I could use to teach the training, as something to hand out to them. If anyone knows where I could find such a guide I would greatly appreciate it.

Hi everybody, I'm new in the forum and using mastercam and solidworks... I have solidworks 2013 and mastercam X5, and I was wondering how to open the solidworks parts in mastercam x5, I know I can save them as .IGES or .DWG (autocad) and open them in mastercam x5 but when it comes to start the program for milling, I cannot select any line neither the center of any hole, any idea of what's happening or any suggestion? Thanks!

hi guys, I'm doing this part, a mouse mold. Somebody could give me a little help? I have to use multiaxis functions at least one time. You can find the cad file in here: http://grabcad.com/library/mouse-mold I'm trying to do the lower part.

Hello fellow Mastercamers, I'm a student of Mechanical Engeneering and I am making a project about complex shapes machining and I was giving this part. Can anyone help me with this? This is a challenging part and I dont know how to aproach it. In attach I send some images of the part. Hope you can help me.

How many people are using Wiper inserts in facemills to improve surface finish in steels and/or stainless? Is there an appreciable difference? We run mostly Mitsubishi but have never bothered with wiper inserts.

I am having a issue with a Helix milling cycle, on my PC when I post it and look at the code, it activates the cutter comp but does not turn in off and moves to its next location. I am guessing that it is dangerus to have cutter comp activated when it is doing positional moves. We did a test in a different file, everything identical and it turns it off. The only way to get rid of the problem is to do a perpendicular entry. Any thoughts?

we just put a new spindle in a vf1, and we need to change the orientation parameter for the spindle, its asking for a passcode, if this is not a machine specific code can anyone tell me what it is so I dont have to call haas
