What is the largest file you all have had to work with?

 

This morning I translated a Catia file that created a MAstercam file of 9,719 kb. It just about killed my system. This was just translation and rotation! No tool path yet. And I have a pretty healthy CPU and RAM.

I've files over 200 megs... 1000's of surfaces and a bunch of toolpaths thrown in there as well.

250 MB- too slow on my computer !

A little over 30 MB here. That is definately the exception, not the rule.

mostly all of mine will run 30 - 60 mb. always complex models here

Actually that 250 meg file was a solid converted from X_t so smple part ,biut a lot of slots ,holes ,some other simple elements ,but with 1000 `s of faces .

It took me eternity to convert it ,shade it ,build top view curves and to save them to separate file .

Some people do not know how to draw parts !

I have had a couple between 25 and 30 mb. They take forever to do anything. Most of the time I will break them up into smaller separate files to speed things up.

Iskandar, those are exactly the kinds of files I received... Maybe its from the same "engineer".

 

I should mention that most of my files are before toolpaths are under 10 MB, those 200+MB files were the execption.

Will a better graphics card help speed up processing and loading. I have an older Nvidia and sometimes some files take forever. That this might be the problem. I have 512 ram and when it's doing stuff there is still 200 mb free. I have plenty allocated to mastercam.

90MB Here... Usual file size is around 10-12MB

200 and down for me.Matter's on the customer and the type of work they do.

Some times they load slow then all fine after that.

Our Catia translated files run from about 9,000 KB to about 3,500 KB

We have files over 100megs a lot but our

biggest one is 251megs. We do all mold work.

I would love to see the 100+ meg files.

Mine are usually pretty small(less than 100,000 bytes) since we don't do much 3D work,but getting into it little by little.

The largest file I had was about 2meg and a 9 hour program.

have these files been run thru "ram saver" it really keeps the file small as it can be.

Yes we ram save covert splines toarcs and delete

duplicate entities.

I increased virtual memory and allocations in Mcam, and it seemed to help on my largest files (but theyre only up to 25MB). Don't know if it'll help you though.

I’ve been working almost exclusively in design for the past three months. CATIA, with some AutoCAD drawing.

 

So everyone – what system changes would you recommend to speed up larger files? More RAM? I have 1 gig, and I was still chunking. Duel processors?

 

I did all of the Mastercam cleanup things like RAM Saver, blank base surfaces and such.

Mayday - I've been riding a lot lately. That little 250 is a great learning bike! My son and I took (and passed) the basic riding class this weekend, and although it’s getting cold here, I can still get some time in.

About 6,000kb and that about stalled my healthy computer (that is a complete mold assembly). I can't believe some of your guys files, It must take a few minutes just to open the file.

 

Kathy, How do you like working with Catia-Mastercam are you having good translations? Do you think Catia is similar to SolidWorks?
