Hey all: I've read about some problems here, but this has never happened to me. I've been working on a job for 2 days, and this morning opened it up to work on it, and there are no toolpaths, not even a machine group...completely blank.......ouch ! Please tell me there is a way to get my paths back.

X2 SP1

Thanks,

Frank

Only if you were using backup files,

If not then this file is likely gone.

To set up backup go into your system config >> files >>autosave backup

There is a backup option,

I created a separate folder MC_BACKUPS and I save a running of 3 files, everytime I save it saves there as well as 1, 1 becomes 2 and 2 becomes 3, it'll save your bacon

Please note that in Ron's screenshot, the box

"include bitmap in file when saving"

IS OFF!!!!

This option should be turned off and left off

It is videocard dependant and causes a lot

of data loss in Mastercam.

We just had a guy here loose 4 days work on a 5X V9 file over this bitmap thingy.

Luckily, he posted the file just before the crash.

I do not use the Bitmap, but do use the Autosave and not had problems with using it. I get pulled out to the shop a lot and when I get back and most time need to put out a fire and always forget to save the file when opening up something else and would lose work so I use Autosave for that reason and have no problems using it unlike others seemed to have.

Its a function of filesize. Really big files and auotsave can be a bad mix. Files that can be written to the hard drive in a couple of seconds

don't have any trouble with autosave.

So many people loosing files that are new to MC.

Sorry to hear about your lost file.

But one of the most important things to do when managing digital data is keeping a backup.

Progressive save has been needed for about 15 years....

Perhaps someday it will be a built in function.

0 byte bug that has haunted MC forever....

Just a little present from our friends at Microsoft...

file.1, file.2, file.3, file.4....oops that would be Proe's format headscratch.gif ok how about file1.mcx, file2.mcx, file3.mcx biggrin.gif

I know there are scripts for this, but I would like to see it built in.

When you press the save button MC should never over write the original file..

That is not Microsoft's fault.

Ya perhaps you are right.

Murlin,

Mastercam added a progressive backup utility

in X_MR1 over a year ago.. Unfortunantely, many people don't read the "What's New" files and are detirmined to further their education by way of the school of hard knocks biggrin.gif

For my original files, ones saved on a server for all of the computers to read, I want one file and only one file. I don't want anyone to read an incorrect file. So the backup utility is great for me. I save all my backups somewhere on the computer that I am currently working with. That way we don't have a prob with someone using a bad file.

Wow...Yup I was ignorant on that addition.

(I have wanted that feature ever since ver 6)

Thanks for the enlightenment.

I have been mostly engineering in Proe and not using MC alot.

Awesume guys.

They need to turn stuff like that on in default so all us illiterates can see it saving multiple files biggrin.gif

I usually do read the whats new..just missed that one

no wait I did read that but misunderstood it.

I thought you had to use autosave to have the incrimtal backup.

And I refuse to use auto save as it has caused me alot of trouble.

But incrimental save is da bomb..

.

Murlin, is this the backup naming that you are looking for

It does the backup and sequentially numbers it in

same folder

.

backup3.jpg

.

backup1.jpg

.

This work for me and my file which end up usually

100 to 200 meg do not cause problems.

I think you can leave the delimiter blank to get

Rick1.MCX, Rick2.MCX and so on, i like the

under score.

Have not tried it with the auto save turned off

and see what happens.

hope this helps

Rick

It still works with Autosave off.

At my job, we save all our work to a network.

I have the backup utility saving to my C drive

Everytime I hit Save, my real file is saved to the network as usual and an incremental backup is written to my C drive.

You do have to clean out the backup folder on a regular basis. It can chew up a couple of gigs of hard drive pretty quick if you forget to clean it out. smile.gif

This is great!!! This feature should be turned on and left on!!.

Even though this feature is a year old, I have read at least 5 posts in the last year of people loosing files. At least turn it on by default.
