Planes creation

I am curious how "most" of you guys create Tool planes?

Myself, I use rotate plane or geometry 100% of the time.

How many people use Gview? Problems or issues occasionally?

rotate plane

this is ALWAYS my first choice..

no associative geometry to get jacked up

or deleted by mistake

no origins to reset..

can be exported and imported to other files

without trouble..

no invalid axis warnings because a line was

.0001 out of square

I create most of my geometry and solids so I use rotate about 90% of the time. If I get a model I use solid face. I have only had a few times when the designer cheated and marked up the drawing and didn't change the model. Never had any problems with Mastercam itself.

Anyone ever have trouble with a plane that won't kick out a rotational value if posted with other paths or only outputs 0 degrees if posted alone?

I have trouble if I use the 'convert to 5 axis' feature in the multiaxis toolpaths menu. I think it's my post because it not only won't post created toolplane angles, it doesn't even post B and C values at anything but B0 C0 if I use the convert to 5 axis selection.

If I use the regular multiaxis / multisurface selection, it works just fine.

This is a real bummer b/c the convert to 5 axis is a very nice feature. wink.gif

Depends on what type of model I get/make. Usually rotate, solid face, and geometry. Often, if I know the rotation amounts, then I set to top, then rotate Gview, then Name and Save Current Gview.

One trick I've found, is when I bring in Catia files, I make sure to bring in planes and axis'. That way, I can use the Catia sketcher planes to create mcx planes from geometry that someone has already created for me. The tedious work has already been done.
