Mastercam CAD usage Survey

I just need to be able to creat 3D tubing around the perimiter, and cutouts of my parts. Tolerance bands for check fixtures. I currently have to do this in another CAD software.

I have been solely using mastercam from 5.5, so i am completely in the dark as to what parametric brings. What does it allow you to do differently?

Imagine being able to change 1 thing in your model and the entire thing with all of the dimensions that are affected by the 1 change update as well.

I too was in the dark about Parametric Modeling until I was exposed to CATIA. I must say, once I was exposed to it... I've been spoiled ever since, now I KNOW....

 

I have NO inside knowledge about what CNC is thinking but I know if enough of us talk about something, something gets done, added, fixed, implemented, whatever. CNC is VERY responsive to customers, they even welcome communication fro mtheir customers. Of course they always want you to go through your reseller channel if possible but they still are not opposed to customer contact.

 

CATIA on the other hand... they don't give a rats @$$ about end users/customers. They don't want to hear a peep from you. They want your money and NOTHING ELSE. If you don't like something, tough... tell your reseller and MAYBE you'll see some action this decade if you're lucky. They just implemented threadmilling FROM THE BOTTOM UP in V5 R17 talk about a bunch of idiots!!!

Parametric is cool.

 

It would be cool if CNC had a form to fill out

for needed enhancments.(1/4'ly maintenace updates)

 

Who likes going our of thier machining software to

get a job done anyhow? (time is money)

Is parametrics solids or solid and surfaces? It sort of sounds like what solids should do/does? I have the solid option, but i always preferred using surfaces anyway for machining. I have a customer request for improve surface trimming, most of the time it works fine, but when you get to that one surface that doesn't want to trim

Surfaces still have a place but if you're not using solids, man you are falling behind where the technology is going.
