use a DrillMaster Gundrill. Just pre-drill a 1" dia. hole with a carbide drill and then use a 1"Gundrill. DrillMaster has a 1 x 22" Gundrill that you can run unsupported in a machine center.
it would be REALLY sweet if someone could come up with a model for a 14" x18 pitch, 3 or 4 blade, with an 1 1/8 keyed hole.!
This would fit a MasterCraft with the Powerslot option!
We use Makino v33's for finishing trodes and hard tooling, we have a 5axis mikron too. They all have 30 grand spindels but you just can't beat them for accuracy and dependability.
Well, the mikron can ONLY be used for light finishing. We don't usually watch dims too closely on parts comming off the Johnfords, they are always +.03 stock on parts that are pre-heat treat.
Actually they werent all that bad, ours were equiped with high speed machining and Blum lasers. There are a fairly rigid machine. We had alot of quality issues regarding sheet metal, way covers and the tops of the spindels vibrate loose every few weeks.
And theres no real good way to get the waylube off the top of the coolant. They were pretty good "hoggers", good for what we bought them for.
We had a couple of Junkfords, err...I mean Johnfords in our moldshop. We used them for roughing cores and cavities and prepping blocks for heattreat. the chip augers WERE slow as hell,
I think we had our maint guy (Jim) install different motors. anyways, they filled up the little tubs TOO fast and we had to get bigger chip bins! Anyways... Jim said he got the motors from Grainger.
Just call your machine distributor and they can tell you what motors to upgrade with. Good Luck!
That IS cheap especially for Schunk!!! We use them in HSK style holders, actually have better runout with er type collets, but we have the tri-lobe, you have to squish em round to get tools in and out...
We use ALOT of custom Macro programs in our lathes and Millturns. Everything from sending the machine to "home" position to custom drilling and milling cycles, probing cycles and even boring jaws and collets!
im also trying to keep everything the same across many machines. I need the same operator to run several different machines. I need "G205" (machine Home and clears out tool changer) to be the same on all machines.
Your right Mark, they all claim their tools last longer. Thats why you have to do your own tests. You have to get some reps in and let them show you what their tools do on the materials and setups that you have in your shop.
They usually let you try the cutters for free and they will stay there and help you with feeds and speeds to get the desired results you want.
Surface high speed raster for roughing, Surface finish parallel for finishing. You will have to create arcs on edges and use that for your containment boundry.
Iscar "Helido" and "Sumomill" all the way... Lasts 20 times longer than Ingersol cutters. I work in a mold shop and have done extensive tests with interupted cuts and deep pocket milling.
We started out using Ingersol cutters and kept blowing them up, after 20 cutters, Ingersol wouldn't replace the cutter bodies anymore. We switched to Iscar about a year ago, we havn't blown up a cutter body yet!
The inserts last longer, but are more expensive. YMMV!!!
nope, we have a software upgrade comming that will allow us to use Macro programming on the lathe side. It seems Mill has had this option for some time, its just making its way over to the Lathe side at Okuma!
Thanks Greg! Yes!, I want to check this EVERY TIME a tool is measured! I have a request in for Okuma to add Macro programming to this control. I have it on our Multus but now our LB3000.
