  1. View 17... don't know if this will work, but try this - (from the mastercam menu bar) Screen, combine views. That may move the arc to a different view (top for example). If it does, then regen and repost.
  2. The interesting thing here is that it backplots as all arcs, but later posts with a mix of arcs and lines. So my theory is that either the post or post processor is the culprit. Now maybe the post processor is reading something from the machine definition, but the helix settings seem to be ok...
  3. Hmm... tolerance settings seem ok. How about when you back plot is it all arcs or does it match what is posted? (Trying to figure out if the issue is the post or not.)
  4. What are your Arc Filter/Tolerance settings?
  5. Ok since you tried bumping up the memory allocation without any luck, try changing some of the toolpath parameters; On the Restmill parameters tab [*]looser cut tolerance, larger number on the (Total tolerance) [*]larger stepdown, [*]larger stepover - or set to zero Also on the Restmaterial parameters tab [*]change the Stock resolution to a larger number

    .STL's

Just to be clear there are a couple of ways to machine STL files... One way is to import it as a mesh and then select it just as you would a surface. Another way is not to import it at all. You simply select the CAD file button in the toolpath/surface selection dialog box. [ 01-29-2010, 09:27 AM: Message edited by: Mark H ]

    .STL's

Yeah try it out. It might take some time to open or merge the STL depending on how complicated it is. From what I remember STL file importing has been improved over the last version of Mastercam. As far as toolpaths, I found its similar to toolpathing a solid. Also another nice feature is that you can shade the STL mesh.

    .STL's

Yes you can. One way is to import it as a mesh (option button on the file open dialog box.)
  9. Not sure why it wont open for you using the "File open" command. But I do know that some larger STL files take some time to read in. They open much slower than regular mastercam files. Just let it run for a while to see if it finally opens. Possibly have it run during lunch or in the background while working on another job on a second mastercam session.
  10. Oh and one important note, meshes can be shaded!
  11. Also once you select STL as the file type, before you click the OK (check mark) there is an option button. Try both types "mesh" or "lines" one may work better for your application. Meshes are good for creating toolpaths with and are considered a single entity by Mastercam as opposed to the thousands of individual lines the "lines" option gives you...
  12. quote: "...Is it because of a video driver that this is happening?..." No, it's a bug we introduced in X4 that will be corrected in the next update to X4. So you are saying there will be another X4 update - X4 MU3? ...and we wont have to wait for X5?!?!
  13. Hey Pete... havent had this problem since X4 was installed. (Orginally I posted this in August of 2008 when I was running X3.)
  14. Not sure about drilling, I've only used it for "surface" toolpaths. However I do remember reading on this forum that Verisurf can do some interesting things with STL filesgeometry inside of Mastercam.
  15. You can open an STL file to use for toolpaths. But when you open the file, you select "import as STL Mesh" - this option button is located on the file open dialog box. When you are ready to select geomety for a toolpath, you select the STL Mesh. Note: If you imported the STL as Lines, you will not be able to use it as "surfaces". (Techinally you do not change it to surfaces - you use it as is - an STL Mesh entity.)
  16. From another thread Linky quote: ... did you try Screen/Regenerate? That should clear it up. If not, let me know. And this should be cleaned up in the upcoming X4 Mu2.
  17. I've run into this problem several times, but was unable to figure out the exact steps to reproduce it. Thanks for sending it in.
  18. I have this problem, but not all the time. I tell it to regen just one operation and MCX4 will regen all of the dirty ones. If I restart MCX4 it goes back to normal - for a while. I haven't been able to figure just when it starts going haywire, but it definitely does. I was thinking it had to do with the multi-threading, but wasn't sure.
  19. quote: I've been clicking that button every day..... +1
  20. Yeah I got this error too... I was thinking it was because I had an existing X3 file with toolpaths that I brought into X4, and then created new toolpaths in X4. This is just speculation on my part since I have not had any problems when starting fresh with X4.
  21. quote: 13.0.3.31 .. the initial public release is the same as the last beta PC.. no need to reinstall So I guess thats why the posted release date is 05/18/09 and not 06/08/09.
  22. I know there was a problem with center of tool being selected by default instead of tip. But you mentioned the .030 Z step and .125 radius, so that might not be it.
