Internal testing at CNC software seems to indicate that X2 will run on Vista, though its certainly possible that we've missed something. I'm not aware of any beta testers running Vista yet, so most if not all of the testing has been in house. That being said, Vista isn't generally available until Jan 30, so any computer you purchase before then will have XP on it.

Something tells me that computer hardware is going to make a huge step in some other direction.

But they going to wait till they bleed all the money they can from the current PCIX2..... heck AGPX2 hasn't hit the shelf yet and they already dropping open GL.

Quadros going to go the way of the Do Do? headscratch.gif

Guest CNC Apps Guy 1

2K Pro has no eye candy. XP is where they added that crap that just saps your video resources dry, and Vista is a HUGE leap in terms of eye candy. For us CAD/CAM/CAE folks, Vista is such a downer. They had the opportunity to clean things up but it appears they screwed the pooch yet again.

Are those guys retarded? Open GL is standard for CAD/CAM/CAE. They can't kill support for OpenGL.

Killed it they did ...and as it goes only about 10 to 15 percent of the puters out their will actually run Vista properly...larger and bigger requirements ...which means..."NEW PUTERS FOR EVERYBODY!!!!!!" ....of course...Micorsoft confesses that ppl with highend hardware would be capable of taking the upgrade but older puters wont be able to cope.

Vista is a steaming pile of ......

Windows Vista ships without an actively developed help system.

Microsoft gutted 32-Bit WinHelp from Vista but INCLUDED 16-Bit WinHelp.

Figure that one out.

This now means all RoboHelp generated WinHelp files ( and all WInHelp files for that matter) are no longer supported on Vista.

Since WinHelp includes API System calls, it's doubtful Microsoft will add legacy support in a service pack..

HTMLHelp is supposed to be the preferred Vista-compatible solution for context help.

However, development on HTML Help stopped quite a long time ago; it's in maintenance (critical updates only).

HTMLHelp popups are barely usable (unlike Winhelp popups they cannot be printed, and they don't even position themselves to avoid being hidden under the task bar!).

The only solution to this is to change the PopUp topics to Hyperlinks that are displayed in the default window.

So, there you have it, Windows Vista ships without an actively developed help system!

ARRRGGGHHHH!!!!

This confirms to me that Visual Studio Professional with an MSDN subscription has outlived its usefullness.
