For a stock model of that size you'll want to increase your tolerance settings significantly.

Imagine THAT file at .0001" or .001mm :o

I left the Path Tolerance at .005" and the Tool Shape Tolerance at .003" which are the default settings for the stock model. It took about two hours to complete. My rest-rough pass is set at a Total Tolerance of .003" and my Surface High Speed Hybrid finish Total Tolerance is set at .001". The rough path took about 30 minutes and the finish path around 15 minutes to process. Let me know if those tolerances were overkill.

Again, and not to clog this thread up on my project, but I was interested in relaying information about my system and how important the amount of ram was. 6G of ram is not enough for large parts and large file size. I actually ended up using 7G+ on this application and I don't like the idea of buffering back to the hard drive, so when I only had 6G, a large amount was buffering. I really couldn't even open my E-Mail without long pauses for the reallocation.

Ram is cheap. I got 12G for under $200 and it is worth it.

4.831 seconds if i refresh again?

you need to clear out your regen folder for subsequent time trials

if you don't, Mastercam uses the cached files and you get much better times.

In a real world programming environment, this is good, but the benchmark thread

is based on first run times andcalculating andwriting the regen files is part of that

Drafting3 almost the same rig. I need to move to the 32gig Vengeance Quad memory from the 32 gigs of the dual channel Vengeance 1600mhz memory..

yeah, i've been stalking you for some time.

now that we have the same computer, i feel so much closer to you. :secret:

DON'T YOU FEEL THE SAME WAY!?!?!?!

lol j/k ;)

I'm sure you chose your components for the same reason I did.

Asus Sabertooth X79, 5-year Warranty, Military Grade, Great cooling features.

i7-3820 - Going to the 3930 was double the cost, and while gaining two more cores, each core drops by .4ghz. i just couldn't justify it.

Vengeance Ram - looks cool, big heat sinks, oh... and lifetime warranty ;)

h100 cooler - 5 year warranty closed system cooler

I actually chose the X79 chipset specifically for the quad channel memory. You should totally upgrade. Maybe return the package within 30 days with the old dual channel memory in the box? lol :innocent:

I may play around with overclocking to see how it affects my benchmark. maybe the gains are enough to appreciate? anyone else played around with overclocking?

The file on the ftp

ftp://mastercam:[email protected]/Mastercam_forum/unspecified_uploads/

Opening in x6 toolpaths now are these (see pic). Did someone change them and resave to the ftp? Can someone please upload the original file.

However the file now (see pic again) is a pretty good computer workout. Might be worth using this as a new benchmark. I was at 5:26

on my new Xeon W3565 with 12gb ram and 256gb ssd

Chris, Neurosis made a new benchmark file to test these newer faster computers. See this post for more information on it.

Ok guys. I created a bench mark with updated tool paths for you guys with the bad a$$ pc's. It is an X6 file using optirough, stock model defined by stock + optirough, optirest, hss horizontal (same as before) and hybrid.

Here is the file

Its on the ftp under unspecified uploads since there are no folders for x6 yet.

open the file and dirty the operations. Change the filter to .005 to dirty, and then back to .0001 to run.

As we all know, just dirtying the optirough will automatically dirty the stock model. wink.gif

Lets see now fast you calculate this sucker.

Then if you are really brave, tell me how long it takes to simulate it with your quality turned all the way up.

trying to get .ftp access from the IT guy. could someone email this file to me?
