Information for CNC Programmers

I am just now learning CNC programming. I want to collect all the reference information I will need to use at my job on a regular basis.

 

For example, I know I need a drill chart, speeds and feeds data. What other information do you experienced programmers keep close by that you refer to often?

My Machinery's Handbook is in PDF format. Text searching is pretty sweet.

Become buddies with your tooling reps. Most are very knowledgable.

 

Edit: If you are lucky enough to have a very knowledged salesperson buy their tools even if the competition if offering the same tooling at a discounted price. They're worth the extra few dollars.

My mini Mach hand book an a huge bottle of Ibuprofen. Also +1000 on Both Hardmills suggestions.

 

the more experience the less you need by you for gramming. Shop floor experience gives you the best training for speeds and feeds setups.

I would get a good tap/drill chart like you said. This would include FORM taps aswell as STI tap sizes and a chart with KEENCERT sizes. You may not need them, but in our work they are used all the time.

Which charts ?? And most are just a reference only.

A sometimes decent starting point.

There are so many variables. How rigid is the setup, tool lengths and depths of cut. Best info is the "experienced" folks on the floor but beware. this can sometimes lead you astray. Do some research and find similar jobs that have been tried and proven. Even old jobs can be improved with some of the latest tooling available.

This is so true, but what has to be taken in to consideration is a change in any one of these can have a great effect on the others.
