There is a new tool for Mastercam X4 and X5.

 

Free from Verisurf

 

Added to the MBD install, this new tool is called Minimum Bounding Box, it lets you select surfaces or solids and automatically calculates the smallest block of material in free space with options to lock the rotation if needed.

 

This new tool will show you the size and weight of common material types.

it’s a great tool for setting up your WCS on a new job for the first time and it can also be used to quickly get the minimum material cost for quoting jobs.

 

This new tool is designed to save you time and money and it's free with Verisurf MBD.

 

MBD stands for Model Based Definition.

 

MBD is a tool that gives you 3D drafting and GD&T annotations. It also includes tools that help you get information out of your model quickly.

 

Here are some of the other Free tools that come with MBD.

 

•Hole Axis – used to quickly get the center points and vectors.

 

•Hidden Line – changes surface model display for screen printing.

 

•Screen Shot – takes screen shot and opens in MSPaint.

 

•NotePad – used to add and save notes into your model.

J/K guys this a great new tool and I am not saying that cause or where I work. I think a lot fo you guys are really going to enjoy this free new tool. Also check out the MBD dimensioning right to surface and solid models.

People using Norton A/V products will want to shut it off before downloading. Norton File Insight is killing the files as they come in..

Thanks for this great tool...nice to see its all ready for X5....Used to be I would not install a new version till I could have holeaxis....that gets used daily. Minimum bounding box sounds very nice also.

Has anyone tried the minimum bounding box yet? Here are some screen shots of it in action.

Here is what it is when you use make WCS. It will also create a usable WCS as well:

 

 

Also the Length, Width and Height are scrollable with the center mouse button and you have different material choices to choose from for the weight or a user defined based of a Material mot listed.
