  1. So your files end up with a bunch of new view 8, new view 9, etc in them?
  2. I'm going to ask this here since wcs is being discussed. In 9, when I set wcs to some random geometry, all planes were relative to the wcs. Say once i set the wcs, if i was in iso view and want to draw something in front plane, I could just set cplane front and a z depth and everything was fine. In X, I set a wcs, and top cplane is the top of the new wcs. but if i'm in iso view, and select cplane front, it wants me to create a new view. Maybe i'm being anal, but I don't want to create all the standard views relative to the wcs just to create some quick geometry. I have found that if I go to front view, I can say cplane=gview and not have to create a view. Is this just the way it is, or am I missing something. Do I have to create views relative to my new wcs to work on standard planes? I have been working on X for quite some time now, but just been working around this and figured it is time I come to grips with this and start creating lots of new views every time I want to draw construction geo, or ask and see if I'm missing something.
  3. I had this happen when I got my new computer, and fought with it for a week or so, calling dell tech support, etc. Over the last few weeks I have updated my nvidia graphics drivers and haven't had it happen since. It was crashing while just moving my mouse across the screen a few times. Im running 81.67 drivers at the moment, with no problems. It didn't make much sense to me, having to replace graphics drivers to fix what appeared to be a mouse driver problem, but I had changed those and it didn't help. If you can't find any other opinions or solutions, give the graphic driver change a try.
  4. If you don't have Mastercam Art, which is an add-on, you can get a freeware program called wintopo, and bring in raster graphics like bmp's etc, and convert them to vector and output them as dxf. Then take the dxf into Mastercam and clean it up for machining.
  5. I always have at least 2 open at one time, and not unusual to have 4 open with no problems.
  6. +1000 Thad Once you have your toolbars just the way you want them, go to toolbar states and save it as one of the existing ones (I use the design one as default) and set it to default. Then the settings should stick even if you resize, and if they don't, all you have to do is pull up the toolbar states menu again and double click your design state (or whatever one you choose to use as default)
  7. It works in MR2, but you have to use the tool bar to launch it, if you try to alt-c and pull up chook folder and run it, it will give you the "needs to be updated" error. We have the v4 and v5 translator from moldplus, and they work awesome.
  8. It must be nice to be able to do all your design work etc in something like Pro or Solidworks. I know how to use both, but neither is up to designing tools around customer data that comes in from every system known to mankind, in iges half the time, and native, Catia, UG, etc. the rest of the time. We do prototype formed parts, deep draws, etc. from part to print in 10 days or less, and I have found nothing better than Mastercam to design the tools in, so we can design and hit the cnc machines in a day or two. Between wireframe, and moldplus for runoff, etc. it has all the tools we need.
  9. They give you temp codes until you pay the bill, or return a sim if you have been issued a new one for whatever reason. Call your reseller and see whats up.
  10. Its a 2d card, but will work with Mastercam, but not very powerful.
  11. I'm probably not going to make it, were way over booked here, would be nice to meet a couple of you other Michigan MC'ers though, besides the few I already know scattered all over the state.
  12. bumping to the top, hoping for more responses. Seems like it must be something we have set wrong if no one else is running into this...
  13. Rich, Using either the mastercam or the mastercam external does the same thing, and it crashes out of X after throwing up the buffer overrun crash message. The program does send before it crashes though. I could very well have the com settings screwed up, I used to be on top of all aspects of mastercam, but since we got X, I am designing only and we have an operator on ther floor that does the toolpaths and runs the machine, and I have a design seat so can't poke around on my own seat in the toolpath stuff, so the machine def and control def are probably marginal at best at the moment. xgioser, We are using the same program # for all files and operations, not sure on that setting you mentioned, where is that set at?
  14. Bump, has anyone else ran into this, we are having it happen here too.
  15. Ahh, I didn't try it from my toolbar, just tried to run the chook. Will give it a try to hold me over till the mr2 recompile is available.
  16. Yeah, Moldplus for MR1/SP2 won't work for me, so will be waiting to hear when its available for MR2, hopefully soon...
  17. I for one, did not try to or mean to sound like a complainer, if I came across that way. I have never threatened to switch softwares, in fact we just bought another seat last week. I do send in a crash report when mine crashes also. My old box was a dual xeon, and I wasn't having any crashing problems with it. This box is new, and I have a strong hunch that it is my mouse driver causing it, just because it seems to crash when I move my mouse. I don't mind jumping between 9 and X, we do so for other reasons here still, and probably will for some time yet. Keep up the good work CNC, I have been using MC for too many years to give up on it now, and I'm sure it will be worth it when most of these bugs are gone.
  18. If you are getting that screen, you don't have the rights to install the video driver correctly. Your gonna have to call the IT guy....
  19. The new Dell's we just got are Precision 380's, 3.8 ghz, Quadro 1400's, 2 gigs ram, etc. I appreciate the advice Mike, butI refuse to turn my hardware acceleration off or to the first notch. I have Solidworks, Dynaform, and MC9 on my box too, and none of these crash when I move my mouse, and I don't want to dumb down my new higher end PC to baby X. I'll just use 9 for the time being when I get tired of loosing data to X, and hope the next release gets a little closer to a stable enviroment.
  20. I got a new Dell a week ago. Since then I have had X crash on me a few times when moving my mouse. No click, no picking an icon or a menu, no rotating geometry, just move the mouse across the screen and boom. I'm not sure where to start. X is the only program that has done this, I can work in 9 all day with no problems. Does anyone think it may be hardware related? I have all the good stuff that MC likes in the computer as far as graphics, memory, etc. Not sure if I should try to hammer Dell, or wait for mr2 before trying to blame the hardware.
  21. Use ruled toolpath and rule the 2 arcs together. I would rough it first, then use a smaller tool to do the ruled with, like a 1/2 ball. P.S. I know others already said this, but I'm trying to get my post count up.

    hide?

lol, I won't waste my time trying to sell you hide Isky, just thought it might help some others that don't see a good use for it. I also won't try to poopoo using blank with all the untrimmed surfaces and stuff in there either, I'm sure if you want to, you can make it work for you.

    hide?

I guess its true, you can't teach an old dog new tricks....
  24. RandyN

    hide?

I don't see how some of you don't see the use of hide. Say im trimming a surface, or maybe projecting a curve, I hide everything but the curve and surface, do what I have to do, and unhide the rest again. I use it ALL day, every day. Divide and concure. I realize everyone doesn't work the same way, but give it a try sometime, you will like it. P.S. my files have custom levels, attributes, bla bla bla too, but thats not the point of hide / unhide IMO
  25. Solids are nice when your designing parts, but designing a mold or forming die around customer data takes surfaces.
