  1. "If you are starting a business it might give a cheap machining option but the machine is a throw away with little residual value." I dont hear this guy make a lot of really stupid statements like this one. the fadals are easier and faster to setup than the old fanuc controlled machines that I ran. I love the fact that the dnc is so easy to use. the old memory issues with fanuc controls were notorious and very expensive. i am starting a new business and can't afford a new machine. I found a rebuilt fadal 1990ish and it was double the price of a mazak the same size in pretty good condition. I found a sabre for a little bit less but was talked out of it by one of our forum brothers that doesn't like fadals. i could buy an old 1980ish japanese machine that runs pretty good but the tool changer cant be fixed for 5k to 10k. the service on fadals is local here and they come in a day or 2. they carry the parts to do almost anything and they can replace a motor and ball screw in less than a day. much cheaper than japanese machine one shop I was in had a lot of machines. snk, viper, enshu, okk and one fadal. they are aircraft shop. production environment. fadal is used everyday but is nothing special. if you dont believe they are accurate then ask ernie from verisurf about cutting optical reflectors. sure we would all like a shop full of mori's but there are a lot of really bad machines out there. billy
  2. Hi lathe guys I need help changing the ramping direction in the groove function. i dont want to plunge the tool into solid stock. file is 12284finturn.mc9. lathe directory. the geo is the yellow color geometry. thank you

  4. it looks like you guys missed the undercut. billy
  5. Hi Guys, I have had trouble with certain pourous materials. aluminum bronze comes to mind. when it breaks out of the bottom it likes to break the last little bit. I started drilling half way or almost through then from the other side.
  6. see apt5m9.pst on ftp. haven't tried yet for x but it should update ok.
  7. But I still enjoy a good fight. Thanks guys

  9. sounds like a good time to use home position, you can enter it in home it in the file and referance it in the post with xh,yh,zh
  10. check your misc integers and see if one is setup for e output.
  11. try doing half of the hex at a time or extrude the hex to create solid first
  12. if you send me email I will introduce to someone who might help you. el habla espanol
  13. You might try this. It doesn't work 100% but here goes. create solid from surfaces. create curves all edges from solid
  14. I would put mine with all my other certificates that I have gotten from machine sellers and cad cam companys. In the bottom drawer of my roll away where no one has ever seen them. In california that certificate and $52. will get you an annual pass to six flags.
  15. "When I was a boy, "Made in Japan" meant cheap" +1 gcode. when I started in machine shops all the old farts thought mitutoyo tools were junk. just like korean stuff is getting better now. the vipers are gaining many fans and I know some people who like their cars. I dont think they are equal to japanese products but I think they are considered better than chinese stuff. one thing i am certain of. the tough times of manufacturing here in america will make us all better programmers and machinists. if not I'll see you on corner, I'll be the one with the god bless you sign billy
  16. +1 Moldman I know fadal is not the best machine out there. As I hear it the haas is even more popular. But I am ordering a fadal this week. I have dealt with those fanuc guys for years and they really know how to over charge for their service. I really have nothing to say about haas. I have never run one. The best programmer that I know has a shop with 15 fadals and won't consider anything else. I can also say that i wouldn't buy one of the 8030s. they wear out too fast and lose tolerance very quickly. on the other hand the 2015 with boxway is very accurate and can stay accurate for years. I ran some for 10 years and never had problems with accuracy. I also believe that fadals are easier to setup than fanuc controlles machines. I have taught many operators on fadals and they are easier to learn. that being said I have a chonce to buy a 60x25 hitatchi seiki for about 25k. I can buy a rebuilt fadal 4020 for $28,5. all things considered i Have to go with the fadal. I would like to have the power and extra travel but the cost of possible repair and service is too much for a startup company billy
  17. i dont think it is the baud rate. the control buffers 200-300 line ahead. I have always used 9600 baud rate and it has been ok. I would check the G8 and make it is staying modal. (just make sure there is no G9). also i keep the feedrate at 50. if you cant get the jumping to stop have your service guys check servos and ball screw. billy
  18. try closing freecell before running x
  19. "the vises appear to have been run into a couple of times, although I swear I know nothing about that. " +1 I don't know how that happpened on my vises either b.stein
