  1. Pre-selecting geometry is not needed, instaed when you get to the parts page, right click in the parts list area, then from there you can either add a chained parts or a cluster of parts. with some searches i found a few videos that may help you out Geometry nesting Toolpath nesting
  2. I know you were not asking about training but I would highly suggest budgeting in training costs as well for all of the products you are quoting. The reason I mention this is sometimes I have seen the mentality of "ill learn it on my own" from companies buying something new and learning from experienced professionals rather than your team stumbling through it yourself will make a world of difference and verisurf is certainly user friendly from my experience but when I attended verisurf training I learned a ton and cant imagine how much longer it would have taken me go get familiar with verisurf without the training. I have only used verisurf and no other metrology software so I really cant help with comparing it to other systems but can tell you that if you are a mastercam user you likely have little trouble learning/using verisurf.
  3. Hey welcome to the forum FNguyen3! I see its your first post so just wanted to say hello. Glad you got the problem fixed, there very likely was easier solutions to the problem you were having but if that worked for you that is good news. If you run into major issues in the future though you can also always reach out to your local reseller as well for tech support if you don't want to go through a complete system restore. For me a system restore is always like the last thing I would want to do with any of the pc's I use but I understand everyone's different.
  4. Hmm I have never tried that cut pattern for floor finishing but it looks really great for that application. Nice work!

if you build a wireframe shape like a rectangle around the point cloud you can get powersurface to work on the point cloud, but its very limited and not as powerful as like spaceclaim or verisurf for point clouds but if its a simple point cloud i have got powersurface to work ok
  6. hmm i am not sure in that case, without looking at the file the next best thing you could try would be to make a stock model toolpath, make sure its set to top plane, then select the stl file. A stock model toolpath can be created off an external stl file. From there you can use the simulators options button and select that stock model. i would expect that would definitely work
  7. click on the button to the right of verify (from the toolpath manager) which is called Simulator Options, once you get into simulator options make sure that stock is set to your stl and it should verify properly. When using multiple stocks or stock models typically simulator options is where you change the stock to display for simulations.
  8. its the Cplane vs 3d setting in the solid chaining manager, change it to 3d and it will select just the single edge, see gif below.
  9. I did a search for this under the knowledge base and this KB article here may help you out https://kb.mastercam.com/KnowledgebaseArticle50440.aspx
  10. i would probably just make a 2d profile and use tangent stock extension for the stock option https://fastechincorporated-my.sharepoint.com/:v:/g/personal/support_fastechinc_net/EdinI7yHueVFq8pw769t0bEBeqCsRu3mei7X2WSrDwWlHg?e=4OssXW
  11. https://youtu.be/EqVDy_xKv44?t=170 that vid above may help you a bit. there is a lot more to it than what he shows in that short video but without getting overly complicated and overly involved into this subject this would be a great place to start and from there once you learn the basics with arc filtering if you have more specific questions on this topic let us know. but if you don't have any special reason that you are using that fillet type in solid works then I would do what Collin suggested above and start using the type of fillet that is an actual arc. Spline geo is broken into lines unless arc filtering is used. Using the best geometry possible should always be the first place to start and arc filtering should be common practice for the toolpath settings, proper use of arc filters will make a much cleaner nc code file.
  12. been there done that. Broke the endmill off when i did it because the spindle stopped faster than the axis did.
  13. oh ok, nevermind about that then. It still could be somekind of corruption in the "my mastercam" folder aka the user data folder. You could try this if you wanted. 1. shut down mastercam 2. go to your documents folder 3. rename the "My Mastercam 2021" folder 4. start mastercam up, that folder will get rebuilt in its default state.
  14. If I had to guess I bet your documents folder is on onedrive correct? Last time i seen this it was because the user data folder was on a server or onedrive and once we moved the user data folder the problem went away. let me know if that's the case and i can point you in the right direction on how to alter that but that would be my guess.
  15. it also effects the Chain Select (the Shift + Select geometry or chain from the autocursor toolbar) other than that I don't think it effects anything other than chaining and Chain Selections. I have seen problems with too loose of a chaining tolerance when using short segmented geometry, like if we have a chain composed of lines less than .001" then you wouldn't want your chaining tolerance to be any larger than .001", or you basically wouldn't want your chaining tolerance any larger than the smallest line segment in the chain, if your segments of the geometry being chained are shorter than your chaining tolerances it will cause trouble.
  16. i have seen this before but I also do not know what specifically causes it. it still lets you snap to things but no icon will appear and the restart is all I have found for a fix as well.
  17. themes are under File --> options then on the Options page. I think in an early beta there was a number you entered somewhere for the themes but thats a thing of the past and now its selected inside mastercam under file --> options and then on the options page, same place where the large icons check box is located.
  18. i think it was the third update to 2020 that supported solidworks 2020 files so make sure your 2020 has all the updates, you can check for those in mastercam from File --> Help --> check for updates. Keep doing that update multiple times until it finally says no updates available and then you should be able to open the file. if that is not the problem then you will need to re-register the solidworks dll, how to: https://kb.mastercam.com/KnowledgebaseArticle50231.aspx or my reply on this question here also shows the re-register process http://forum.mastercam.com/Topic38525.aspx#bm38534
  19. its not short lived, Mastercam for solidworks is still a fully supported product and receives just as many updates as mastercam full version. I think this video shows what he was referring to Source: https://community.mastercam.com/TechExchange/Parts/149#partTitle
  20. This mastercam video here is a deep dive into arc filter settings which may help you out
  21. things like this I find all the time on Grabcad.com or 3dcontentcentral.com, I think you got to sign up which is free to be able to access downloads but for fun projects like a chess set there are tons of models like that on there in case any of you were not aware about those websites. For 3d print projects i like Thingaverse.com a lot but its like mostly stl files provided where at grabcad and 3dcontentcentral typically they are nice solid models to work with so for a machining chess project grabcad probably has hundreds of chess pieces or entire chess set models available
  22. there was a specific version of codemeter that had some problems, but yes that has all since been resolved, I would suggest downloading the latest codemeter and there is no harm in doing that. at this time it looks like 7.10a is the latest https://www.mastercam.com/support/technical-support/drivers-and-utilities/
  23. see the pdf attacehd for what each icon means, this is from MCFSW but applies to Mastercam full version. From what this document shows that means you have a toolpath locked and set to display off MCfSW_Quick_Ref_Card.pdf
  24. thanks but after seeing mikes video I like your guy's method better, its faster and easier. I read tad's response but it didn't actually make any sense to me until seeing the video mike made, great work guys
  25. great way to do this mike! nice method
